Arrangements Made for Water Contest Three Utah Schools Will Be Represented In Monday's Meet OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES Parke Petterson, Editor Barbara Kimball and Marjorie Wood Associate Editors Alpha Sigma will enter a triangular swimming meet next Monday evening, February 27, in the Weber gymnasium. The time will be exactly eight o'clock sharp. The other two teams will be from East and South Highs, Salt Lake City. Come along, you students, give the boys a big boost. Buy your tickets from the boys -in white sweaters with the black insignias. The price of admission will be one dime.-Puddle. HEART GROWS FONDER Officers, sponsors, cadets, and last but not least, cracksmen, lend me your ears. You haven't been requested to wear your uniforms since last Tuesday-or was it Wednesday? I'll bank my leather eyeball (even with all these banks going broke) that you won't be required to wear them until your big night of the year, February 24. With this vacation away from your uniforms your hearts should start throbbing so fast that they will miss a couple of beats, with the chance to wear them again. Putting the preceding paragraph in a nutshell, don your uniforms and come to the hop. This is your affair, so if you won't get behind it how can you expect anyone else to? Come on, let's all go to the cadet hop like one big happy family.- I-W-O. PATRIOTIC ASSEMBLY We. didn't mind school on Washington's birthday at all. In fact, we had a very good day of it, and a perfectly marvelous patriotic assembly. At the suggestion of Mrs. J. G. Falck the assembly centered about the flag, and it was truly inspiring. Captain Grant Aadneson gave us a fine talk on the origin, history, and significance of the Captain Ross Lynch led us in the oath of allegiance to the flag. Mr. Hanson led us in singing with band accompaniment "America" and "The Star Spangled Banner." Then there was a captivating melody number by the band which included 16 numbers. The assembly was conducted by Lieut., Colonel Verne Springer. Student Body President, Dale Anderson, Miss Woolley and Mr. Glenn Hanson, sponsored the program. The platform was occupied by R. O. T. C. officers, their sponsors and Major Dyer. REGULAR COUNCIL Regular council meeting was called to order by President Anderson, the roll was called, the minutes were read and approved. Mr. Goddard reported that the tennis court committee saw Mr. Williams, who would take up the matter with the other commissioners. The report was accepted Los Loritos was granted permission to hold a party March 10. Marion Cheesman, reporting for the flag committee, gave ideas as to raising money for the flag. Each member gave his report of the stand taken by his class. The president gave the various organizations and activities which will contribute to the movement. It was moved and seconded that Lowell James be appointed parliamentarian of council. By motion Alpha Sigma was granted permission to sell tickets to its swimming meet with South and East Highs, next Monday in the Weber gym. The president announced the game with Weber High to be held at their gym next Friday at seven- thirty. He also stressed the necessity of the students' support to this game and to the annual cadet hop to be held afterward. He announced a pep assembly Friday at three o'clock and a special holiday assembly Wednesday in celebration of Washington's birthday. After discussion of the money that is made at the checking stands, the chair appointed Verne Springer, to make possible arrangements with the Berthana for the running of their stand. Council then adjourned.-The Secretary JINGLE BELLS! Did you hear all that noise on Saturday night? If you didn't you surely missed something. It was; to advertise the fact that the mem-1 bers of Gregg Artists were having! a bobsleigh party. And did we have1 fun! After riding around for a while, yelling and making as much noise as possible (and Mary L. was no exception), we ended up at the home of Ruth Hoggan and enjoyed hot chili, tamales, and hot chocolate. I hope our parties in the future are as enjoyable.-Kathryn Peterson. NEWS OFFERED Here is some news on Juste Moi: He is working now as a chauffeur for the Deseret mortuary. Starting from the ground up, eh? What was all the crowd in front of the trophy case today? Maybe the antiques needed a cleaning and if more of the students don't attend the games we won't have anv more in there this year. And another thing, it seems that the boys of physical education are supporting the cadet hop more than the cadets themselves. Such pride! Are we going to beat Weber Friday? Yea boy! And did Mr. Merrill squelch the "Depression Day!" Yowzzah.-Emmerson Huff. FRIDAY EVENING, FEBRUARY 24, 1933, Warriors Hope To Cinch Flag; Rule Slight Favorites Closing League Battle Is Expected to Draw Capacity Crowd OGDEN DIVISION W. L. Pct. Weber 4 1 .800 Ogden 3 1 .750 Box Elder . 2 3 .400 , Bear River 0 4 .000 Tonight's Schedule Ogden at Weber High Bear River at Box Elder Basketball fans of Ogden and northern Utah are promised four periods of torrid play at the Weber High gymnasium this evening when the Weber and Ogden scholastic fives clash in their all-important battle. The headliner is scheduled for eight o'clock sharp. Weber High, with Eldon Chard , back in a suit, is out to even the score against the Tigers for a 36 to 26 defeat suffered some weeks ago in their first clash with the Orange Streaks. Ogden on the other hand needs a single victory out of two remaining contests in order to be sure of first or second place in the league standing. If the Tigers win they still 'could be thrown into a tie with Weber if Bear River manages to upset the Dick Kapple five next week in their postponed game. Probable Lineups Weber High- -Ogden High Powell Forward Boerens Chard Forward Ellis Spilsbury Center Kennedy McLean Guard Woodland Cragun Guard Greenwell Referee - Malcolm Watson; Umpire-Norm Watkins, TITLE AT STAKE Weber High, incidentally, can settle the championship once and foi- all time, insofar as the division is concerned, by turning back the col-, orful Tigers this evening. A victory for Weber would give the Ballif men their second consecutive title in the division, and this is the goal expected to be reached by Weber supporters. The Ballif men, incidentally, will be playing on their home court, j which is quite an advantage, i Coach Mark Ballif of the Warriors I expects to start Powell and Chard ! on the forward line with Spilsbury at center. McLean and Cragun will get the call at the guard positions. Jules Dieu, one of the leading scorers of the division, will be in a suit and will see action in at least a portion of the game. The Weberites passed up- the cus- j tomary practice Thursday and are reported in ideal trim for tonight's crucial test. QUESTION HERE Coach Dick Kapple of the Orange Streaks was undecided today as to5 his starting lineup. Kapple will use either Hall or Woodland at one guard position with Greenwell at the other guard post. Captain Bud Ellis and Boerens will perform at forwards with Maurice Kennedy at center. "Pot Shot," Standard-Examiner basketball expert, has had a season of upsets this year in picking winners, but strings with Weber tonight, despite the recent setback of I the Warriors at the hands of the Tigers. j Bear River and Box Elder should stage a thriller at Brigham City in the other encounter, Second teams of Ogden and Weber will meet in the preliminary ; game at seven o'clock tonight. I Here are "Pot Shot's" predictions: Weber High 33, Ogden High 31 Box Elder 34, Bear River 29 A record breaking crowd is expected to attend the local headliner. |
