Show FRIDAY EVENING. February 3, 1933. Warriors Rule Favorites Over Tigers Tonight Scholastic Fives Will Collide Over Four Period Route Capacity Crowd Looms; Headline Game Will Start At 8 P.M. Weber high and Ogden high hoop- j sters, traditional rivals, will have it out on the court at the Weber gymnasium in the first of their annual two game-series this evening. The headliner is scheduled for eight o'clock and a capacity crowd is sure to be on hand to watch the two fives perform. The last time Ogden and Weber battled they traveled three extra periods before the Tigers emerged with the state championship. Tonight's contest may not go into three extra periods, but it may be an overtime affair at that. Ogden is the defending state champion while Weber goes into the fray tonight as the defending division championship team. TOSS DOPE ASIDE Pre-season dope is always cast tc the four winds when these teams battle. In fact, it is generally a toss- up when one comes to naming a favorite. Weber is given an edge by most critics in view of the decisive manner in which she whipped Bear River and Box Elder while Ogden just did manage to win over these two rivals. Weber disposed of Box Elder 36 tc 24 and won over Bear River 43 to 24. Ogden, on the other hand, staved off a belated Bear River rally to win 22 to 19 and counted a two- point victory over Box Elder, 26 to 24, with a long shot in the waning seconds of play. Prior to the opening of the league season Ogden twice walloped Logan. Logan, however, gave Weber an artistic lacing. Weber appears to have the better i offensive team while Ogden is rated stronger in the defensive department of the cage game. RESERVES TANGLE Second teams of the two schools will tangle at seven o'clock in the preliminary. Coach Mark Ballif of the Weber- ites will start Dieu and Powell at forwards with Spilsbury at. center. McLean and Cragun will open on the guard line. Dick Kapple, veteran mentor at Ogden, will send Captain Ellis and Boerens into the game at forwards with Kennedy at center. Woodland and Greenwell will open the battle on the guard line. "Pot Shot," Standard-Examiner basketball expert, gives the Weber- ites a five-point margin. The guesses in the region are: I Ogden 28, Weber 33. Bear River 34, Box Elder 27. |
