Basic Photography (4) A, W, S Introduction to black and white photography. Students learn the use of the camera, film and print processing and gain an aesthetic sense of the medium. This course examines the structure of images and helps the student develop different strategies for interpreting and constructing those that communicate effectively. 117. Design: 3D (4) A, W, S The study of fundamental design principles and techniques including working knowledge of various design methods and their relationship to the conceptualization, development and completion of 3-D design projects. 141. Perspective (3) Introduction to various techniques for representing three- dimensional objects and depth relationships on a two-dimensional surface. 215. Intermediate Photography (4) A, W, S Production of high quality black and white photographs, introduction to the zone system of exposure, printing, toning. A highly disciplined craft-oriented course to help develop technical and aesthetic skills in black and white photography. Photojournalism (4) W Photojournalism and documentary techniques for visual communication. Emphasis on developing sensitivity to and awareness of the emotional impact of photographic images. Visual Communications I (4) A Introduction to basic communication/aesthetic/mechanical problems in designing with type and related visual information with orientation to electronic layout tools. 251. Introduction to Art Education (3) A An entry level course to teaching which acquaints students with various aspects of teaching art, including the history of art education, its philosophical premises, the developmental characteristics of learners, and working with art materials. Includes at least 6 hours observation and participation with a variety of populations and educational situations.
