Show Composite Programs Composite Programs PROGRAM: ART COMPOSITE TEACHING MAJOR BACHELOR DEGREE Students will be admitted to this program upon recommendation of the art faculty following a portfolio review during their sophomore year. General Requirements: WSU Core Requirements (see index). General Education Requirements (see index). A minor is not required. Art majors must have a C or better in major courses. Art majors must have an overall GPA of 3.00 or B. 183 total hours are required for this degree. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above.) • Must achieve an overall 3.00 GPA and admission to the Teacher Education Program. (See admission requirements to Teacher Education.) Note: Educ 300 and 400 classes are open only to students admitted to Teacher Education. Specific Requirements (83 total credit hours): Foundation (19 credit hours—taken freshmen year): • Art 108 (3), (offered Autumn quarter.) • Drawing: Art 111 (4) (offered A, W, & S), 112 (4) (offered W&S). • Design: Art 116 (4), 117 (4), (offered A, W, & S). • Core (19 credit hours): Art 115 (4), HU201 (4), HU202 (4) HU203(4),218(3). Art majors who have completed the foundation and core are permitted to take the 300 level studio class without the 200 prerequisite in Metals/Jewelry, Watercolor Painting, and Weaving. Students who have not completed the foundation and core and who wish to take specialized studio courses must take the 200 level studio course. Additional Requirements (22 credit hours): Art 251(3), 351 (3); elect 13 credit hours from the following: Art 220 (4), 231 (4), 242 (3), 243 (4), 335 or 235 (3), 354 or 254 (3), 260 (4), 365 or 265 (3), 270 (4). Support course required: Commun 102. Support courses recommended: Art 305 (4), 352 (3), 452 (3). Art 351 must be completed prior to commencing student teaching or similar training. • The following specifics also apply: the following courses are required as part of an additional 23 credit hours: Art 305 (4), 352 (3), 452 (3). Students must meet and consult with the Department of Visual Arts chair and Art Education Program Coordinator to plan the remaining 13 credit hours. • The student must have an emphasis in two of the following areas: ceramics, drawing, graphic design, illustration, jewelry, painting photography, printmaking, sculpture, weaving. • Support courses required: Commun HU102 (3); Educ 365 (3); choose one of the following: Chfam SSI50 (5), Psych 314(3), Chfam 450 (3). Students obtaining an Art Composite Teacher major must satisfy the College of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Education Program). PROGRAM: BIOLOGY COMPOSITE TEACHING MAJOR BACHELOR DEGREE Advisor: Dr. Richard Vineyard, Director, Center for Science Education 626-6160 General Requirements: • WSU Core Requirements (see index). • General Education Requirements (see index). • Psych SS101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Biology Composite Teaching majors. • A minor is not required. • Biology Composite Teaching majors must have a C or better in major courses. • Biology Composite Teaching majors must achieve an overall 3.00 GPA and admission to the Teacher Education Program. (See admission requirements for Teacher Education.) Note: Educ 300 and 400 classes are open only to students admitted to Teacher Education. • 183 total hours are required for this degree. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). • Students obtaining a Biology Composite Teaching major must satisfy the College of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Education Program). These courses must include the following: Educ 195 (1), 300 (2), 301 (4), 303 (3), 305 (3), 316 (3), 462 (4), 463 (4), 495 (12), 499 (3). • Support courses required: Educ 365 (3); choose one of the following: Chfam SS150 (5), Psych 314 (3), Chfam 450 (3). Specific Requirements: • Minimum of 69 credit hours in the biological sciences. Biological Science courses required: Botany LS 110 (5), 112 (5), and 362 (5); Micro LS205 (5); Zool LSI60 (5), LS201 (5), 211 (5), 212 (5), 330 (5), and 381 (4); Botany 345 (5) or Zool 440 (4) or 445 (4) or 447 (4) or 448 (4); Zool 498 (2); Botany 320 (5) or Zool 420 (5) or 421 (5). • Electives: Additional Biological Science courses needed to meet the state requirement of 69 credits should be discussed in advance with the adviser. • Minimal support courses required (33 credit hours): Chem PS111 (5), 112(5), IB (5), or PS 121 (5), 122 (5), 123 (5); Commun HU102 (3); Geol PS111 (5) or 122 (5); Math 105 (5) or 106 (5); Phsx PS 101 (5). NOTE: It is recommended that more advanced courses in mathematics, physics and chemistry be taken, especially if graduate studies are planned beyond the bachelor of science degree. These should be discussed in advance with the adviser. PROGRAM: BUSINESS EDUCATION COMPOSITE TEACHING MAJOR BACHELOR DEGREE General Requirements: • Specific Requirements (see index). • Requirements for General Education (see index). A minor is not required. Composite majors must have a 2.5 or better in major courses. • An overall GPA of 3.00 and admission to the Teacher Education Program are required of all Education majors. Major Requirements: • Students who have taken Shorthand or Keyboarding at another school will be placed in the appropriate level courses by means of an evaluation of their proficiency. Any skill courses that are bypassed may be replaced by elective courses in business. • Students transferring credits from another institution must take at least one Keyboarding and one Shorthand course or equivalency verification at Weber State to verify their ^ skills. * • Business Education/Administrative Systems credit earned more than ten years earlier than the proposed date of graduation will not be accepted toward major requirements unless validated through a challenge examination or department chair approval. • To enroll in any skill course, a student must have a grade of C or better in the preceding course in the same skill. • Any deviation from the printed graduation requirements must be approved by the department chair prior to taking the course(s) in question. • College of Education Certification Program: (See Teacher Education Program.) Students obtaining a Business Education Composite Teaching major must satisfy the Department of Secondary Education requirements for certification in sequence (39 credits): Educ 195 (1), 300 (2), 301 (4), 303 (3), 305 (3), 316 (3), 462 (4), 463 (4), 495 (12), 499 (3). Support courses required (6-9 credits): Educ 365 (3); choos one of the following: Chfam SSI50 (5) or Psych 314 (3) or Chfam 450 (3). Beas 325 will meet the Commun HU102 requirement. Advanced Standing Requirements (23 credits): These requirements must be completed for entry into all classes numbered 301 or above offered through the College of Business. Acctng 201 (3); Beas PD170 (4); Econ 202 (4)*, 203 (4); Quant 240 (4)*, 260 (4)*. * Math 107 or equivalent is a prerequisite for Econ 202, Quant 240 and 260. • Business Core Requirements (19 credits): Acctng 230 (3); Beas 325 (4); Busadm 320 (4); Mgmt 312 (4); Mktg 301 (4). • Specific Major Requirements (35 credits): Beas 150 (4), 220 (3), 250 (4), 270 (3), 300 (2), 301 (3), 310 (3), *360 (2), *361 (3), *363 (3), 489 (2), and 499 (3). • Must be taken before student teaching. • Choose one of the following emphases: Office Systems Support Emphasis: • Courses required (14 credits): Beas 201 (4), 202 (3), 302 (4), 353 (3). Beas 362 must be taken also to certify for teaching shorthand. Basic Business Emphasis: • Courses required (14 credit hours): Courses must come from the following areas wqith approval of a department advisor: telecommunications, accounting, business administration, computer information systesm, economics, finance, management, marketing, programming, and sales and service technology. PROGRAM: COMMUNICATION AND ENGLISH COMPOSITE TEACHING MAJOR (COMMUNICATION EMPHASIS) BACHELOR DEGREE General Requirements: • WSU Core Requirements (see index). • General Education Requirements (see index). • Psych SS101 (5) or Soclgy SS101 (5) or Anthro SS101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Communication and English Composite Teaching majors. • A minor is not required. • Achieve a C or better in major courses.
