PROGRAM: EARTH SCIENCE COMPOSITE TEACHING MAJOR BACHELOR DEGREE General Requirements: • WSU Core Requirements (see index). • General Education Requirements (see index). • A minor is not required. • Must achieve a C- or better in major courses. • Must achieve an overall 3.00 GPA and admission to the Teacher Education Program. (See admission requirements to Teacher Education.) Note: Educ 300 and 400 classes are open only to students admitted to Teacher Education. 183 total hours are required for this degree. Sixty of the total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). • Students obtaining an Earth Science Composite Teaching Major must satisfy the College of Education Certification Program. The courses must include the following: Educ 195 (1), 300 (2), 301 (4), 303 (3), 305 (3), 316 (3), 462 (4), 463 (4), 495 (12), 499 (3). • Support courses required: Educ 365 (3); choose one of the following: Chfam SSI50 (5), Psych 314 (3), Chfam 450 (3). Psych SS101 (5) in the social science area is recommended for music education teaching majors. • A minor is not required of the music education major. • Music education teaching majors must have a C or better in major courses and achieve an overall GPA of 3.00 or better and admission to the Teacher Education Program. Note: Educ 300 and 400 classes are open only to students admitted to Teacher Education. • 183 total hours are required for a single emphasis major (choral or instrumental) in music education. • 194 total hours are required for a dual emphasis major (choral/instrumental or instrumental/choral) in music education. (See admission requirements to Teacher Education.) Note: Educ 300 and 400 classes are open only to students admitted to Teacher Education. • 183 total hours are required for this degree. Specific Requirements: • Students must complete a minimum of 69 credit hours from the areas listed below. Two or more areas of emphasis must be selected, and the listed required courses for each selected emphasis area must be completed. Course work beyond the emphasis requirements but counting toward the 69 credit total may be selected from the optional course list for each selected emphasis area, or from the entire course list of non-emphasis areas. The selected areas of emphasis will be identified on the official student records. • Chemistry courses required (28 hours): Chem PS 121 (5), 122(5), 123(5), 213 (5), 311(4), and 312 (4). Optional courses: Chem 301 (4), 307 (5) and 313 (4). Geology courses required (30 hours): Geol PS111L (5) (strongly recommended) or PS 111 (5) (acceptable), 112(1), 121 (4) and 122 (5); two courses chosen from the following list: Geol 306 (4), 315 (4), 318 (4), or 376 (4). Remaining courses to make up the required 30 hours can be selected from the previous list or from Geol 254 (4), 275 (5), 295 (1-8), 308 (4), 325 (5), 339 (3), 363 (4), 385 (4), 388 (4), 406 (4), 483 (2), or 495 (1-8). No more than 4 credit hours of the 30 hour total can be taken from 295 (1-8) and/or 495 (1-8). • Mathematics courses required (36 hours): Math 200 (1), 211 (5), 212 (5), 213 (5), 241 (4), 310 (3), 312 (3), 325 (3), 416 (4); MathEd 301 (3).
