Gaskill Description The Criminal Justice program provides students with a liberal education, while offering academic preparation through an expanded emphasis on criminal justice education. The program also offers a basis for graduate study and seeks to contribute significantly to the improvement of the quality of justice administration. Criminal justice agencies in the recent past have established advanced academic standards. Education is becoming a more meaningful factor in selection of law enforcement, corrections, and security personnel for initial employment, promotion and administrative roles. PROGRAM: CRIMINAL JUSTICE MAJOR BACHELOR DEGREE General Requirements: • WSU Core Requirements (see index). • Bachelor Degree General Education Requirements (see index). • A minor or 28 hour emphasis selected in consultation with an advisor is required. • Majors must have a C or better in courses required for this major. "C-" is not acceptable in Criminal Justice Major, Minor, or Associate degrees. Majors must maintain an overall GPA of 2.50 in major courses. • 183 total hours are required for this degree. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). Maintain an overall GPA of 3.3. • Fulfill the requirements for the departmental major. Specific Requirements: • In fulfilling the major complete at least 15 hours on an Honors basis. In addition complete 3 hours in Directed Readings 483 and 3 hours in Criminal Justice Seminar 499. A student may receive Honors credit in any CJ course numbered 200 or above. Permission from the department chair must be received before registering in a course for Honors credit. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate professor regarding the work expected for Honors credit. (See the Interdisciplinary Programs section of the catalog.) PROGRAM: BACHELOR OF INTEGRATED STUDIES (BIS) General Requirements: • Refer to Bachelor of Integrated Studies in the Interdisc. Programs section of the catalog. • 25 hours of Criminal Justice courses selected in consultation with an advisor and approved by the department chair. PROGRAM: CRIMINAL JUSTICE MINOR General Requirements: • A grade of "C" or better is required in minor courses. A "C-" is not acceptable. An overall GPA of 2.50 is required. Specific Requirements: • Minimum of 28 hours of credit in Criminal Justice prefixed courses. Courses Required: CJ SS101 (5), 133 (3), 302 (3). • The remaining 17 hours must be selected from CJ prefixed courses. • At least six (9) of the hours must be upper division.
