Teaching Reading in the Primary Grades (3) A, S Analysis of developmental reading skills with emphasis on readiness for reading, phonic and structural analysis, word recognition, use of the basal reader, and reading for various purposes. Prerequisites: Educ 306 or permission of instructor. *340. Word Recognition Skills (3) Understanding and teaching word recognition skills with emphasis on phonic analysis skills, structural analysis skills, dictionary skills, and spelling. 342. Kindergarten and Primary Education (3) The learning characteristics and learning needs of young children and how these are provided for in the program of the kindergarten and first grade. *343.
