Show • College of Business Requirements College of Business Requirements • General Information Baccalaureate Degree Requirements: Candidates for a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree in the College of Business and Economics must satisfy the following requirements: General Requirements: WSU Core Requirements (see index). General Education Requirements (see index). College of Business and Economics Requirements: 1. Advanced Standing Requirement. This requirement must be completed with a minimum GPA of 2.5 for entry into any College of Business and Economics bachelors degree program and for registration into all the college's courses numbered 301 or above (see Registration Restrictions on the following page for exceptions). All course prerequisites must be completed prior to registering for these courses. Generally the classes included in the Advanced Standing Requirement are taken during the freshman and sophomore years, along with the WSU Core Requirements and the General Education Requirements (see index). The Advanced Standing Requirement consists of: Acctg 201 (3)*; Econ 202 (4)**, SS203 (4)***; Quant 240 (4)**, 260 (4)**; Math 107 (5) completed with a C or higher grade**; English EN111 (4) and EN112 (4) completed with a 2.65 (approximately B-) or higher GPA for the two courses****; and successful completion of the computing competency test administered by the Department of Computer Information Systems. 2. Business Core Requirement. This requirement must be completed with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Botany LS140 (3)***; Psych SS101 (5)***; Soclgy SS101 (5)***; Acctg 202 (3), 230 (3)**; BusAdm 320 (4), 333 (3), 462 (1)#, 478 (4); Quant 261 (4); Fin 320 (4); Mgmt 312 (4), 364 (4); Mktg 301 (4); an international business course selected from Econ 311 (4), Log 455 (4), or Mgmt 420 (4). * Math 105 or a score sufficiently high on the level II ACT mathematics test for placement in Math 106 or 107 is a prerequisite for Acctg 201. ** Math 107 with a C or higher grade or a score sufficiently high on the level II ACT mathematics test for placement in Math 211 is a prerequisite for Acctg 230, Econ 202, Quant 240 and Quant 260. Note that in addition to being a prerequisite course, Math 107 is a separate requirement for advanced standing. Note: Students who have not successfully completed Math 107 prior to summer quarter, 1993, will have to meet the new GPA standard. *** Botany LS140, Econ SS203, Psych SS101, and Soclgy SS101 may also be counted toward completion of WSU General Education Requirements. Note: These three courses will be required of all new freshmen. For students who have been enrolled at WSU prior to summer quarter, 1993, this requirement will be administered as follows: • Botany LS140 will become a required prerequisite for Business Administration 333 beginning winter quarter, 1995, and is recommended as prerequisite now. • Psychology SS101 and Sociology SS101 will become required prerequisites for Management 312 beginning winter quarter, 1995, and are recommended as prerequisites now. ****English EN111 and EN112 may also be counted toward completion of the WSU Core Requirements. Students who have not successfully completed English EN111 and EN112 prior to summer quarter, 1993, will have to meet the new GPA standard. # Business Administration 462 (Executive Lectures - one-half credit hour) has been added to the business core. Students must earn one credit hour in BusAdm 462, thus they must complete the course during two different quarters. A maximum of two credit hours may be applied toward graduation. Alternate arrangements for fulfilling the BusAdm 462 requirement are available for students that are essentially completing their degree requirements in the evening program and cannot attend daytime classes. Any course used to satisfy a business core requirement cannot be used to fill major requirements. Major Requirements: These requirements are outlined in the departmental sections of the catalog. Graduation Requirements: 1. GPA Requirement - Candidates for the bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree must complete the Advanced Standing Requirements, the Business Core Requirements, and the Major Requirements with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in each area. 2. Residency Requirement - Candidates for the bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree must complete a minimum of 45 credit hours and 50 percent of their major requirements within the College of Business and Economics. Students must be registered at Weber State at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to graduation. A waiver of this requirement must be obtained from the department chair and the dean. 3. Non-business Course Requirements - To encourage business students to seek non-business courses and thereby broaden their educational experience, the following requirements are established: a. Business majors must take at least 74 credit hours (40 percent of 183 required hours) outside the College of Business and Economics. b. Business students who desire a minor must pursue it outside the College of Business and Economics except those who elect the bachelor degree in general economics. Business Minor for Non-business Majors See College of Business and Economics counselor for requirements. General Requirements: • Major in a non-business field. • Approval of program by College of Business and Economics counselor/adviser. A 2.5 GPA in minor courses. Specific Requirements (30 credit hours): • Required courses (11 credit hours): Acctg 201 (3); Econ 202 (4), SS203 (4); and successful completion of the computing competency test administered by the Department of Computer Information systems. • Elective courses (a minimum of 19 credit hours from the following): Acctg 202 (3), 230 (3); BusAdm 320 (3); CIS 210 (4), 220 (4); Fin 300 (3), 340 (4); Mgmt 312 (4), 330 (4), 350 (3), 440 (4); Mktg 301 (4), 310 (4); Econ SB274 (5), 301 (4), 302 (4), 303 (4); Quant 240 (4), 260 (4), 261 (4); Log 205 (5). Bachelor of Integrated Studies Concentration for Non-Business Students See College of Business and Economics counselor for requirements. General Requirements: • Approval of program by the BIS director. • Approval of program by College of Business and Economics counselor/adviser. • A 2.50 GPA in BIS courses. Specific Requirements: Required courses (22-23 credit hours): Acctg 201 (3); Econ 202 (4), SS203 (4). Select three of the following courses: CIS 210 (4); Fin 300 (3); Mgmt 312 (4); Mktg 301 (4); and successful completion of the computing competency test administered by the Department of Computer Information Systems. • Elective courses (select two courses 6-9 credit hours): Acctg 202 (3); Fin 340 (4); CIS 220 (4); Econ SB274 (5); Mgmt 350 (3); Quant 240 (4), 260 (4), 261 (4). Advisement Students who have not completed the Advanced Standing Requirements or who have selected the minor in business will receive their advisement from the College of Business and Economics counselor. All business majors who have achieved Advanced Standing will receive their advisement from advisers in the students' selected major department. Students desiring the BIS concentration will be advised by both the College of Business and Economics counselor and the BIS director. Registration Restrictions/Exceptions 1. Advanced Standing Requirement - All students must complete this requirement prior to registering for College of Business and Economics courses numbered 301 or above, with the following exceptions: A. Concurrent Provision - Students lacking only one of the required Advanced Standing classes may be granted "provisional" admission to enroll in the one course concurrently with upper-division courses. The Advanced Standing class cannot be a prerequisite for any of the upper-division classes taken that quarter and the provisional status can only be granted for one quarter for each student. B. Non-degree Seeking Student - Students may provisionally enroll in a total of five courses (maximum of two per quarter) that are related to the students' present employment. All course prerequisites must be met and space must be available in the course. The instructor and chair must be satisfied that the students' work experience will enable those students to make a significant classroom contribution. C. Summer Student - Students seeking a degree at another institution, who are attending Weber State University for the summer session only, will be granted provisional admission to upper-division courses.
