SI student leaders work in collaboration with the course professor and SI coordinator. • Targets traditionally difficult courses • A nationally recognized and certified program • Volunteer group study sessions available in all disciplines • Peer leaders have completed the course with an A or A- • Courses with SI sessions are designated in semester schedule Education Access and Outreach Telephone: 801-626-7006 Location: Student Services, Room 150 Website: Pre-college access and ouheach programs that include K-16 partnerships and encourage underrepresented students who are traditionally non-college bound to pursue and successfully complete a post-secondary education that meets the mutual needs of the university, public school system and community. Major projects: "Gateway to Education"Partnership Partnership with local community agencies, Ogden School Dishict, and Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College that provides an alliance for partners who work collaboratively to increase college awareness, information dissemination, and educational support services to parents and families with the goal of high school completion, participation in post-secondary education, and workforce development. The Family Empowerment Conference is a signature event held annually in March. College Access and Transition Initiative This committee includes university staff from Student Affairs, Enrollment Services, and Academic Colleges who focus on developing a college access approach that can effectively assist underrepresented students through the enrollment process and create shonger connections through the first year at the university. A major goal is creating a shong tracking process of enrollment and retention for these student cohorts. Signature events include College Goal Saturdays (February) and Transition Nights/Events (April-June). Student-To-Student Outreach (S2S) Telephone: 801-626-7027 Location: Student Services, Room 150 Website: weber.edu/S2S/ College mentors and advocates provide college-readiness and access opportunities for underrepresented youth through mentor- ship, academic tutoring, advocacy, and on-campus activities. S2S serves secondary schools in Ogden School Dishict, as well as five target high schools in the Davis and Weber Districts to better prepare 25 junior high and high school students for a post-secondary education. Serving as a critical component, university students receive the opportunity to have a rewarding job and acquire professional and personal skills that will enhance their college education. Services include: • Coordination of the Annual Multicultural Youth Conference(s) • Partnership and liaison support of the Utah Scholars Initiative • Mentor/Tutor training • Academic Support (in-school and after-school) • Mentoring opportunities • On-campus activities and field hips • Summer programs • Workshops and presentations • Assistance in completing FASFA and applying for scholarships • College admissions and enrollment Educational Talent Search (trio program) Telephone: 801-626-7006 Location: Student Services, Room 150 Website: Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a federally-funded program that is designed to help primarily underrepresented students who are low-income and first in their family to attend and graduate from college. In partnership with Ben Lomond and Ogden High Schools and Highland, Mound Fort and Mount Ogden Junior High Schools, the program serves 600 students, grades 7-12 from five target schools in the Ogden School District each year. Goals are to provide educational support services that represent a real opportunity to complete high school, enroll in a post-secondary program, and receive financial aid and/or a scholarship. Services include: • Academic advising • Career and college planning • Admission application assistance • Financial aid/scholarship assistance • College entrance examination preparation • Referrals to community resources • Referrals to tutoring/mentoring programs • Field trips to colleges and cultural programs • College resources/workshops for parents and families R UP Partnership (TRIO PROGRAM) Telephone: 801-626-7006 Location: Student Services, Room 150 GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federal partnership grant with the Ogden School District that serves approximately 900 students in the three Junior Highs—Mount Ogden, Highland, and Mound Fort—and then advances into the high schools, Ben Lomond and Ogden, to provide college readiness services to a cohort of students and then follows them from 7th through 12th grade. Program goals include increasing post- secondary preparation, academic performance, high school graduation, post-secondary participation, knowledge of post-secondary educational opportunities and financing, educational expectations and activities, and preparation of secondary teachers and staff to teach and serve students.
