Show MUSC 3824. Music for Elementary Teachers (4) Methods and materials for teaching elementary school music (grades K-6) including skill development on selected elementary classroom instruments. MUSC 3840. Form and Analysis (2) ** A study of basic musical form with particular emphasis on the most important contrapuntal and homophonic styles from the Baroque Period forward. The course coordinates the study of the forms of individual genres with their history and role in the continuous development of music. Prerequisites: MUSC 2120 and 2140. MUSC 3842. Producing the School Musical (2) ** A detailed study of musical theatre and the practical application of skills, techniques, and materials necessary for production in secondary schools. MUSC 3851. Stringed Instrument Pedagogy I (2) ** An in-depth study of pedagogical methods employed in teaching the four orchestral stringed instruments to beginning and intermediate level students. Prerequisites: MUSC 2871/2872. MUSC 3852. Stringed Instrument Pedagogy II (2) ** Continued in-depth study of pedagogical methods employed in teaching the four orchestral stringed instruments with a focus on upper intermediate and advanced level students. Prerequisite: MUSC 3851. MUSC 3872, 3882. Choral Conducting I-II (2 each) ** Basic conducting technique and advanced techniques for techniques for conducting choral ensembles. Music Teaching and Learning in the Elementary School (4) * * As an introduction to the role of music in the lives of children, this course provides opportunities for music majors to develop their rapport with elementary students. The course will include selecting literature and designing effective instructional strategies aligned with the Utah K-6 music core curriculum as well as the national music standards. Students will be introduced to different philosophical and pedagogical approaches as well as develop and implement age-appropriate assessment strategies. Students will develop their understanding of music's role in an interdisciplinary curriculum. A field experience with elementary-age students is required. Prerequisite: Completed Piano Proficiency. Stringed Instrument Literature II (2) Advanced study of music for technical development, plus solo, and chamber music literature of the stringed instruments of the orchestra. This class will focus on music for upper intermediate and advanced students. Prerequisite: MUSC 4771. MUSC 4820. Pro Tools 101 (1) Introduction to Pro Tools covers basic Pro Tools principles, giving you what you need to complete a Pro Tools project, from initial set up to final mixdown. The course has been dramatically reworked and updated for Pro Tools 7 software. Whether your project involves recording of live instruments, MIDI sequencing of software synthesizers, or audio looping, this course will give you the basic skills to succeed. Weber State University is a Digidesign Sponsored School. MUSC 4821. Pro Tools 110 (1) A continuation of MUSC 4820, this course provides a more detailed look at the Pro Tools system. Pro Tools 110 covers all the key concepts and skills needed to operate a Pro Tools LE system. The course provides the foundation for the later 200-series Pro Tools Music Production and Post Production courses. Prerequisite: MUSC 4820 (Pro Tools 101). MUSC 4822. Junior High/ Middle School Music Methods (2) * * Methods of instruction, organization and presentation of appropriate content and musical literature in junior high/middle school music classes. Prerequisite: Piano proficiency MUSC 4830. Directed Readings (1-3) ** To be arranged. May be taken for a maximum of 7 hours of credit. MUSC 4842. High School Music Methods (2) ** Methods of instruction, organization and presentation of appropriate content and musical literature in high school music classes. Emphasis is placed on the administration of the school music program. Prerequisite: Piano proficiency and MUSC 4822.
