ANNOTATIONS E. ROBERT SCHMITZ was born in Paris. In 1906 he entered the Conservatory there and four years later received first prize for piano. Next he founded and directed the Choir A. M. M. A. in the French capital, and later the Association des Concerts Schmitz with an orchestra of seventy musicians. For three years during the World War he saw active service in the French Army. Resuming his career as a concert pianist, he toured the United States in 1919. The following year he organized the Franco-American Musical Society, which is now Pro Musica, with Schmitz as president ever since. The pianist has toured from coast to coast in America and in France, Austria, Italy, Poland, Greece, Holland and the Far East. During the past eight seasons Schmitz has played over five hundred recitals here. Among these appearances are forty-five performances with leading orchestras. He has introduced an imposing list of new works to the public during this period. Regularly every year, the pianist holds his summer session of master classes. Many of his pupils hold prominent positions in the pedagogical world E. Robert Schmitz is recognized, both here and abroad, as one of the most celebrated of the present-day pianists.
