Show PAGE FRIDAY, HIGHLANDER 6 OCTOBER 4, 1963 Garrel Wilson's Grid Career Ended by Injury games. Rounding out Region Three, Highland must also rank as one of the best, especially after that 35-15 trouncing of Bountiful. Highland has long reigned as one of the state’s football powers, but with such stiff competition as South, East and Skyline, they shouldn’t do as well this year. Now we come to Region Two to analyze its football teams. Ogden High has begun a new quest for state supremacy. Skyline upset the Tigers in their season opener, but since then, Ogden has ground out impressive victories over West and Clearfield. With the fabulous Henry Owens, who It’s highly doubtful, wouldn't look impressive? though, that Ogden can survive the Kegion ‘l'wo war grid. undefeated. : than GARY B. L. Falls to Skyline, 13-0 Co some of the state’s best high school jootball tonight at 8 p. m. in the city stadium. Region Two looks more bablanced than does Region Three, with any team this year in the re- gion capable of defeating any other team. Davis, the only school in the region able to escape defeat, has a lot going for it. And with Carter “Cheetah” Cook, who led the Darts to a 26-to-zip triumph over the Scots a week ago today, Davis could well take it. Weber, untested and naturally unbeaten im league play, looks good after downing Granite, Box Elder, and Bear River, although none of these teams exactly burst with power. Don’t count the Warriors short though, they’re out to win and they'll be tough the way they move that ball. Halfway in the won-lost column rests Clearfield, Bonneville, and Bountiful. They should help to balance the league, but all three have been rather handily beaten and probably will be again. Last, but not least, we have Ben Lomond. The Scots have lost four straight, all by considerable margins. The Scots, nevertheless, could develop into one of the best in the area if they could perfect their passing. The Scots’ aerial attack fell through completely against Davis. Ben Lomond wanst to beat Ogden more thun anything, and with former Ogden coach Alan Kap leading them, the Scots could very possibly tear Ogden wide open tonight. Kap knows all the Tiger plays and how to defense them, so it should prove to be a good show. : After this team by team rundown, it is still difficult to say whether Region Two or Region Three is actually the best. But the state championship will undoubtedly find a Region Two team pitted against a Region Three team for the state crown. The favorites have to be Davis or Ogden against either South, East or Skyline. You could even bet your money you really wanted to. on Orem, if WILSON I think S. F. In the second period of play, Skyline came as close as the Ben Lomond 15-yard line, but that was as far as they went. The half also ended in a 0-0 tie. Running and passing superbly, Steve Archibald spearheaded the Scot attack in the third period. Later Skyline, despite the fact they found themselves in a fourth down ‘and 45 yards to go for a first down, scored their first touchdown on a pass into the end zone. The Eagles ran for the extra point and made it, making the score 7-0. In the fourth quarter both teams tried to grind out touchdowns, and success chose the Eagles, who again passed into paydirt for the TD. Skyline’s attempted extra point fizzled and the score stood 13-to-zip. The game ended after a razzle-dazzle offensive display by the Scots who came within, but did not reach, touchdown territory. B. L. Runners Take Two Ben Lomond’s cross country team has won two straight victories. They have outran both West and Davis, taking the first five places in both meets. At the Davis meet last Friday, Ricky Anderson broke the course record, set last year by Ben Lomond’s Wade Bell at 8:46.2, running the mile and three quarters course in 8:32.6. Before the clock ran out at the half, the Dons managed to drive forty yards to the striped lines for their second sixpointer. : The Spanish Fork extra point sent the Dons out ahead then, 16-0. The third period of play saw Ben Lomond’s offense falter but the Scots repelled the Dons on the B. L. nine-yard line. Ben Lomond could not seem to get its offense moving at all in the third period. After successfully holding the Dons on the nine, the Scots began a sustained 91-yard drive to score on a pass from Dave Bott to Mike Judd. The attempt for the extra point failed.
