Show HIGHLANDER PAGE Thistle The Ben Lomond Scots can certainly be proud of the outstanding spirit they have so enthusiastically rendered during the basketball season. The team should appreciate it and realize that we are out there rooting for them all the way. Maybe if the members of the studentbody would carry an extra voice box in their pockets, they could spur the team on to victory during the last quarter. It seems as though everyone fizzles out during those last minutes of play. Keep trying, guys; we’ll be with you ’till the end. * * ENTHUSIASM & SIMMERED a bit as the Utah Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maurice Abravanel, honored the Scots with an outstanding performance. After the orchestra had played several modern numbers, the studentbody heartily applauded them for the concert. Due to Mr. Abravanel’s busy schedule, B. L. should feel privileged to have this talented man perform for our school. Ben Lomond is one of the few schools in the state of Utah that the group consents to play for. * ATTENTION tk Eo UPPER Courtesy, manners, and politeness: three words that mean so much in the success of a school. David Sweitzer emphasized these words in a recent pep assembly pep talk. It seems as though the upper west balcony has ‘students in it that don’t know about these things, or haven’t been taught better, one or the other. The more mature Scots realize that you students might not know the cheers, but does that give you any reason to talk during speeches, leave during the assembly, or ruin the spirit for the rest of the school. Maybe if you calmed down, realized that you have left junior high, and listened to what others had to say, you’d learn something. You’re a big class and the rest of us need your support. How about it, kids? Get off your high chairs and join the rest of the “fighting, friendly, Scots.” SCOT ABC’s Attention all you baby Scots. We're glad to see you here. Too bad you think you’re much too good Are SCANS Editors Chosen Seots in Scotland revere the thistle, their national emblem. Scots at Ben Lomond revere “Thistle,” their literary magazine. Thus, it seems appropriate that the announcement of the “Thistle” editors precedes Scots’ Week by only a few days. This year, Miss Neal and Mrs. Gillens, Ben Lomond’s creative writing teachers, have chosen Larry Huston and Gay Estes to edit the magazine. Following tradition, “Thistle” will contain the best writing from both creative writing classes and from the English classes. It will represent fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, as well as the art of Mr. Taylor’s department. The new editors expect to select their staff immediately, in order to begin work on “Thistle’’. The student body can look forward to its publication in late May. SCHOOLS Humor Across the States The high hopscitch in coln High school boys the halls at School play Lin- in Seattle, Washington. These skits combine Scottish tradition with the purpose of the clan. Three of the skits will be presented on Friday during the gathering of the clans: the three best prepared and most meaningful skits. The Debate Clan participated in a meet at Ogden High School on January 17. Their topic dealt with Medicare. RIMS? adalah Pat Wood Mike THE Malan Deamer Jim Van Leeuwen SCOTS In the Future We Will Remember Meet the Scots features Mike Deamer, Pat Malan, Kathy Toone, Jim Van Leeuwen, and Ron Wood. Mike Deamer, vice president of the senior class, has a few untold secrets up his sleeve. Just ask him about the senior class film. The girl with the golden hair and just as bright a personality is Pat Malan, one of the 600 class of 65ers. Kathy Toone’s tune is always sweet and mellow as she dons her green gown to join the A Cappella. Jim Van Leeuwen, one of Ben bs ih Lomond’s best in the basketball field, has helped Ben Lomond’s team out of the deepest holes. Last but not least is Ron Wood. He always has a Grade “A” smile along with his Grade “A” report card. Once again the staff issues a challenge to the studentbody to get to know these five students. If any student has a recent picture of either himself or a friend they would like to see in Meet The Scots, they may turn in the photographs to any staff member or leave them at Room 35. RRIVED!
