Show PAGE HIGHLANDER 6 Mickey FRIDAY, MAY 1, 1964 Mouse Kides _Again By RICK HASSETT Highlander Sports Editor Well, Goofies, Ben Lomond, Ogden, Weber, and Bonneville are now officially and finally Honorary Mousketeers. That is, they’re members of Division Two, Mickey Mouse Region Number One. (Sorry, Donald). “Come along and sing our song and join the fam-i-ly. M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E, Mickey Mouse. Donald Duck! Mickey Mouse. Donald Duck! Forever let us hold our banner high, high, high!” By the way, next week you all get your little black hat with ears and your official membership cards. As you can see, I got mine somewhat earlier for reasons of valor beyond the call of duty. Arrangements have al- ready been made for covered wagons to Frontier Land— one for the team, one for the girls’ pooped club, and two rear seats for the student body. Oh, yes, the Bonnie Lassies will serve as scouts. Next fall, if any local team wins by less than 40-0, its coach will probably get dragged along by his thumbs behind one of the boats on its jungle cruise at Dizzyland. nt, they s conditions, which was right and good. No Ogden school will have to play more than two games in football and two games in basketball with the northern teams. Since half of those four games will be played here, only two games during the entire year must be staged “up north!” Another little goodie thrown in is that Logan High will not be allowed to play league games with “The Big Four.” (Jumpin’ Jiminee, I bet you didn’t realize that Ben Lomond’s' sophomore class is almost bigger than all of Logan High!) The frontier schools, namely Box Elder, Bear River and Cache, must also field junior varsity and sophomore teams in all the major sports. (High, high, high!) One of the main reasons we’re in the new league is because the Davis schools, like good souls, submitted to high-handed “pressure” tactics from the Utah High Schools © Activities Ben Lomond’s Steve Felt, baton in hand, approaches winning tape a neck ahead of Bountiful’s Scott Peterson. This new family is © Scots Continue Oval Reign The words Ben Lomond and track have become synonymous. The Scots have ruled the cinders for several years now and this year is no different. The Scottie tracksters compiled a 4-2 record this year in their dual meets. -In its first meet of the season, Ben Lomond humiliated Box Elder, 11542-15%, with a sweep of first place in virtually every event. The Scots next turned their wrath upon arch-rival Ogden High. Simply overpowered, the Tigers fell by a score of 82% to 4843 on Ben Lomond’s oval. Weber High, which annually gives Ben Lomond a tough run for its track money, pulled off a 69% to 64% upset over the Scotties in a meet held at Warriorland. Apparently disturbed by its loss to Weber, BLHS’s track and field boys ran into a 67-65 gale at Bonneville High where the Lakers staged an unusual display of track power. The Scots, their blood injected with the venom of defeat, took their vengeance out on Davis, Clearfield, and Bounti- AUTO See 363 tion and instantly voted to join the Salt Lake City preps. Even “Dr. Lao” didn’t switch that fast and he did it seven times! But after all was said and done, Ben Lomond, Ogden, Weber, Bonneville, Box Elder, Bear River, Cache, and Logan patched up their quarrel and unitedly joined together to form one big happy sports family. (Huh, that’s -befo cution.)| Oh, Heaven help the foes of mighty Region One! They tremble in their shoes at the very thought of it! But remember: Now it’s time to say goodbye to all our fam-i-ly. Clearfield’s Falcon track squad journeyed to Ogden a few days later and returned home with an 83-49 loss to the mighty Scots guided by Coach Chick Hislop. Ben Lomond crushed Bountiful in a home meet on April 22 by a comparatively close score of 76.1 to 55.9 to close out its Region Two dual meets. During the course of the season, the Scots also tied for third place at the Snow College Invitational Track and Field meet. This meet was a substitute for the BYU Invitational which Ben Lomond won last year. Ben Lomond and South High both scored 25 points, while East High grabbed first with 42 points and Highland High came in second with 39.5 points. Other scores at that meet include: Weber 21, Granite 8%, Bountiful 8, Tooele 6, Cyprus 4, Hillcrest 3, South Cache 3, Granger 3, Davis-2, Orem 2, Skyline 2, and West 1. Members of this year’s team follow as such: Ricky Anderson, Delane Bell, Doug Stephens, Sid Smith, Steve Felt, Dave Brown, Doug Carlson, Gary in second with 165 and 168, good enough for the fourth spot, while Weber notched a 174, Bonneville a 178, and St. Joseph brought up the rear with a 193. Scott Steele of BLHS tied for medalist honors with two golfers from other schools at 37. B.L.'s Best Athletes Who would you select as Ben Lomond’s outstanding athlete of the year?
