Show Senior Health Connection newsletter Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital Center February 2008 National Heart Month: Be Heart Smart Cardiovascular disease, including stroke, is our nations number one killer. To urge Americans to join the battle against theses diseases, February is proclaimed "American Heart Month." Heart disease and stroke are the most common Cardiovascular diseases, accounting for nearly 40% of all annual deaths. Two of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease are high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol. Here are some things that can help you control your blood pressure and cho-lesterol. Eat a diet low in saturated fats and cholesterol Maintain a healthy weight Get regular exercise Follow your healthcare providers recommendations Eliminate tobacco Control diabetes (source: American Heart Association) Foil-Pack Fish Florentine for Two 1 cup instant white rice, uncooked 1 cup warm water 1 halibut fillet( 1/2 lb.), cut crosswise in half 2 cups baby spinach leaves, coarsely chopped 1/4 cup KRAFT sun dried tomato dressing 1 Tbsp grated parmesan cheese Preheat oven to 375. Spoon 1/2 cup rice onto center of each of two 18 inch pieces of foil. Fold up all sides to form rim. Pour 1/2 cup warm water over each mound of rice; top each with 1 piece of fish. Arrange spinach around fish. Drizzle dressing evenly over fish and spinach. Bring up foil sides. Double fold sides and ends to seal packet, leaving room for heat circulation. Place foil in shallow baking dish. Bake 15 minutes, when finished place on dinner plate and cut slit in top of foil. Sprinkle evenly with cheese. 33 |
