Show Marriott-Slaterville History May 2008 Mr. Morris then presented the amended 2007-08 city budget to the council. No public comment was given. Mr. Morris presented the final 2008-09 city budget to the council. Expenses related to roads which are going to be maintained and chipped sealed were discussed. President Dennis Illum believes that 1200 West needs an overlay before chip sealing. Councilman Delbert Hodson agreed, saying that 1200 West near Marriott Park needs repair. Staff advised that this part of 1200 West will be torn up soon to install a new storm drain line, and that repair can be made when that project is completed. Danny Brown asked about road maintenance on 1200 West. Mayor Keith Butler advised that it will be chip sealed from IRS to Wahlquist Jr. High School. UDOT is paying for the storm drain, but the city is in charge of the project. He would like the road to settle after the storm drain installation, and then the remainder be repaired. No other public comment was made. Following the public hearings, the council approved Resolution 2008-C, adopting the FY 2008-09 final budget for the Pioneer Special District. Resolution 2008-D, for the amendment of FY 2007-08 city budget, and Resolution 2008-E for the final FY 2008-09 city budget were also adopted unanimously. After discussion, Resolution 2008-F, the one-year extension of the interlocal agreement with Weber County Animal Services, was adopted. A modest fee increase for impounds is part of the contract Councilman Kim Slater asked if the Animal Service picks up wild animals. Mr. Morris said that the county only handles domestic animals, with the state handling wild animals. Mr. Morris explained any changes made in the contract with Weber County for certain road maintenance services, as outlined in Resolution 2008-G, the interlocal agreement. Trent Meyerhoffer helps the city to save money by erecting traffic signs and other maintenance for which the county has charged previously. This resolution was also adopted unanimously. Danny Brown from the park committee told the council that the committee has met several times. They recommend the Slaterville Park for the location of the new replacement bowery, and would also like the Marriott Park fenced. Park issues were discussed by the council. President Illum would like a time line set by the park committee, and would like the park bowery bid sent out. Mr. Morris said there has been vandalism at the parks. Mr. Hodson asked Mayor Butler to investigate getting IRS security's help in preventing vandalism at the Marriott Park. He also asked about the sewer at that park. Mr. Morris said that Steve Mecham is working on tying into the IRS lateral. A motion to approve the park committee recommendations, issue the bid, and locate a new bowery at Slaterville Park, was passed unanimously. The council approved the authorization of funds for purchase of a used Bona vista Water District truck in the amount of $15,000.00. Mayor Butler is pleased with the paving of the new parking lot. He advised that both the new Les Olson and IFA stores will open about the middle of June. He also told the council that Waste Management hauled away 12.8 tons of garbage during the spring clean-up. Mr. Morris said that jail inmates have been cleaning up the parks and roads. He reminded the council and staff that they are invited to the Utah Renaissance Festival which is in progress in the city. Mr. Slater said his wife has received money which has been donated for trees to be planted behind the city office. He believes the city could ask for donations for trees, benches, or other items for the park, and be recognized by a plaque for each donation. Mr. Hodson suggested that instead of putting sheet rock back at the Marriott bowery, wafer board be installed to deter further break-ins. Mr. Meyerhoffer said he will take care of that. 125 |
