Show The Pioneer Post Volume X Issue 3 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter March Bag O' Wode Program The Weber Conservation District is sponsoring its annual "Bag of Woad" program in May this year. Last year, kids collected approximately 500 bags of this noxious weed for disposal. Dyer's Wode is a noxious weed that displaces native grasses and threatens wildlife, livestock, and our food and water supply. It is hoped that this program can continue to educate the public about the dangers of this noxious weed, and help stop it from spreading. The program is designed to run every Thursday in May on a first-come first-serve basis. Participants may pick-up official orange bags at the Weber County Fairgrounds Pavilion on May 8, 15, or 22, between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. Participants can fill the bags up and return them the next Thursday. Participants must be between ages 6-18 years. They will receive $10.00 for each bag they return filled with this weed. The participants may be directed to areas where weed problems are worst. When you pick up your bag, make sure you get a copy of the instructions for this program. If you are interested in participating please contact James Barnhill at 399-8208. This program can be a great youth activity to earn some extra cash for kids._ Road Construction UDOT will be reconstructing 12th Street from I-15 to Wall Avenue this year. Expect significant construction starting soon in this area. Curb, gutter, sidewalk and storm drainage will be part of the project. The city will be installing a storm drain along 1200 West as part of the project. Also, the city will be chip-sealing several city roads and some of the new subdivisions this year. City roads are chip sealed about every five years as part of the maintenance schedule. Chip sealing can be inconvenient for people as it may result in rock chips in yards and along the shoulder (not to mention cracked windshields). However, chip sealing is necessary to protect the road from water and sun damage that occurs over time. Flood Watch With spring run-off coming residents should watch for possible flooding along streams and low-lying areas. The Marriott-Slaterville is prone to flooding problems because the area is flat, has many waterways, and low when compared to the rest of the county. The city has access to county sandbags stored locally, so feel free to contact the city in the event of serious flood problems. If you have personal property in flood hazard areas you should consider taking measures to protect your property. If you notice storm drains that are clogged, please contact the city office at 627-1919. By keeping on flood watch during the spring months, the community is better prepared to handle a flood event._ PLANNING COMMISSION TUESDAY, MARCH 18, 2008 - 7:00 P.M. 1. Call to Order. 2.
