Show January 16, 2002 Hansen leaving a trail Take a hike; there are plenty of places to go One thing that is not lacking in Weber County is a place to go for a hike. There are a host of trails and trail networks in Weber County, and nearly every community in the county has plans to expand or enhance public pathways. Here's a short list of the major trails in the county: ? The Centennial Trail will follow the Weber and Ogden rivers and the Bonneville Shoreline trail, a loop of nearly 27 miles. ? The Ogden River Parkway is part of the Centennial Trail. It runs from the mouth of Ogden Canyon to Monroe Boulevard and will eventually be extended west to the 21st Street Pond. ? The Bonneville Shoreline Trail runs along Ogden's East Bench from Ogden Canyon south to about Burch Creek Canyon, east of 5100 South in South Ogden. It is also part of the Centennial Trail. ? The Great Western Trail is part of the National Trail System and includes portions of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail and Ogden Valley trails. It is a link in the trail that will eventually run from the Mexican border to Canada. ? The Riverdale City Parkway runs from the Riverdale Road south about 1.5 miles along the Weber River, and is part of the Centennial Trail. The city plans to expand the trail along the city limits. ? The Marriott-Slaterville Parkway would follow the Weber River west to Plain City, then follow a proposed route to the east along the northern limits of the city. ? The West Haven Parkway includes a trail to the confluence of the Ogden and Weber rivers and may be expanded west along the Weber River to hook up with Marriott-Slaterville's proposed river parkway. ? The Little Mountain Trail, which will open to the public in April, is a 10-mile-long route along an abandoned section of rail grade from Little Mountain to 4400 West. ? The Ogden Valley Pathways network includes a number of existing trails and plans are in the offing to expand the system. 19 |
