Long delays should continue into September, when the project is scheduled for completion. I-15 construction delays 'ugly' Longer waits likely as three-month project continues INSIDE: Tips to avoid the congestion/5A By MARK GRAY_ Standard-Examiner staff The first day of Interstate 15 construction and lane restrictions in Weber County was described by the Utah Highway Patrol as "ugly, ugly, ugly." The Utah Department of Transportation, however, described it as "successful." Andy Neff, regional spokesman for UDOT, said things went "extremely well" Monday with the longest delays lasting about 25 minutes. But "don't let that fool you," he urged. Construction, expected to last until the end of September, has traffic restricted to one lane each direction. 47 Sgt. Don Sagendorf of the Utah Highway Patrol was a bit more critical of the rush-hour traffic Monday afternoon than the UDOT spokesman. "It's ugly out here, but there's nothing serious so far," he said, commenting on a few I-15 fender-benders. He is urging people to be careful and avoid the area. In what UDOT expects to become the norm, northbound traffic typically saw slightly longer delays than southbound traffic Monday. Not only were delays seen on I-15, many side streets faced back-ups and acci- Lew Kratz of Ogden watches traffic at the intersection of 1900 West and 1350 South Monday.
