Silver Wolves' standout loves this time of year By TONY REYNA Standard-Examiner staff PLAIN CITY -Christmas decorations are starting to pop up all around, snow is beginning to blanket the mountains, and there have even been Santa Claus sightings. It must mean one thing -it's wrestling season. At least that's the way Fremont High's Billy Green sees it. Ever since he was in second grade, Santa Claus has been synonymous with wrestling. Green, the two-time defending state champion in the 275-pound class, is all geared up for the wrestling season to start. But the waiting game is taking on a different meaning this year. On Nov. 4, Green was named Utah's male winner of the Wendy's High School Heisman Award. The national recognition goes to one male and female high school athlete from each state who best exemplify leadership on their teams, classrooms and communities. Jordan's Jennie M. Haertel was the female recipient. The list will be pared from 102 state winners (including the District of Columbia) to 12 national finalists, with the winner being named Dec. 15. ESPN2 will feature all 12 national finalists during Wendy's High School Heisman Awards Ceremony. Green finds himself in a pretty elite group. Over 13,500 students throughout the entire country were nominated, before the list was trimmed to 1,020, or 20 per state. "I don't know if I'll make it to the finals," Green said. "It's a great honor going as far as I did. I'll know in the next two weeks if I made the finals."
