Show January 15, 2002 STANDARD STARS Billy Green Fremont wrestling ? Age: 17 ? Class: Junior Weight class: 275 pounds Interests: Food: Pizza Movie: Rocky Book: Through Ken Cherto's Eyes: A Commitment to Excellence Class/subject: Student government Role model: "My family." What I'd like to win a lifetime supply of: Wrestling stuff Best performance in sports: "Last year at the state meet where I beat the defending champion." In spare time: "I like to go to the gym because I lift weights a lot." ? Last week: Green, the defending state 4-A champion, captured individual titles at both the Utah All-Star Classic and Box Elder's Richardson Memorial Tournament. At24-2, he is ranked first in state 5-A ranks by the Utah Wrestling News. Green on his performance: "I beat Tyler Lee of North Sanpete, 5-4, at the Utah Classic. Then I won by one point again, 2-1, at the Richardson tournament. I thought that I wrestled well at the All-Star meet. My strength is my riding and when I'm on bottom I can get out. I'm still working on my takedowns. I started wrestling in second grade and I've been wrestling ever since. I'm giving up about 25 or 30 pounds every match. I think that (weighing less) makes me a little quicker than some of them. This is probably the best team that Fremont has ever had. We're pretty young, but we're coming along." Coach Mark Storey on Green: "He's the defending state champion after getting an upset for the title last year. He rides real well and he has great movement. He moves up and down real well and his conditioning, for a big man, is phenomenal. Billy is a national powerlifting champion. He's our team captain and he's probably one of the most vocal kids on the team when it comes to leadership. He's a good student and a class officer." Goals for season: "We've got the region coming up and then state. I'd like to do pretty good in those and hopefully repeat." After high school: "I want to wrestle in college, hopefully. I also want to go on an (LDS Church) mission." 114 |
