June 7, 2002 UGA GOLF: Howe wins Ogden City Women's Amateur OGDEN - Although she probably won't prominently display her scorecard, Tenille Howe won the Ogden City Women's Amateur tournament on Thursday. Playing the 5,066-yard, par-72 Mount Ogden Golf Course, Howe shot a disappointing 5-over-par 77 but managed to win her second Ogden City title in four years. Last year's event was canceled. "It was ugly," Howe said of her round in which she shot 5-over-par 42 on the front nine and even-par 35 on the back. "It was one of those days where I had a lot of bad breaks," she added. The bad luck started for Howe at the 274-yard par-4 second hole when she failed to find a tee shot that she hit straight up the middle. From the drop area, Howe then pulled her next shot left of the green, where it settled on a tree stump. She then sculled a wedge across the green and three-putted for a triple bogey 7. Howe managed to right her game heading back to the clubhouse as she carded birdies at the 17th and 18th hole to finish at 77, six shots ahead of second-place finisher Julie McMullin. Only 20 people competed in the tournament and just 10 in the championship flight as the number of female competitors at tournaments continues to drop. Georgine Bills won the net title in the championship flight. In the first flight, Irene Lamborn and Pat Gamble shared the championship with equal 94s. Uji Bymaster captured the net title. 122
