The softball tournament will be held later this summer. Residents were invited to join Weber County ceremony celebrating a "new beginning" for Fort Buenaventura on July 1, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Fort. Formerly a State Park, Weber County will be taking it over following the decision by the State to close it due to lack of operating funds. Randy Phipps was asked by the County to cook a dutch oven cobbler for the event. The City received a letter from UDOT informing us that construction "will cause heavy delays for motorists traveling through the area." Both 12th Street and 1900 West continue to be under construction. Travel in the area will be challenging at the very least! Lynette Deru, Chair of the Park Committee, compiled the information researched and developed during the past year by that committee, which has been a formidable task. She then submitted a detailed proposal concerning all phases of development they recommend to Jim Ito, Community Services. The proposal is complete with maps, lists of appropriate trees, shrubs, and other vegetation, proposed facilities and their locations with applicable drawings, and estimated costs. Keith W. Slater received this month's Mayor's Award for Community Service Award for his outstanding service to the community as a member of the Planning Commission. Steve Mecham has received bids from two engineering companies, JUB, and Jones and Associates, for a storm drain plan. In order to have time to thoroughly review the bids, the Council tabled awarding a contract until July 4, 2002. A contract was awarded to B & K Fox to repair the road at 171 South 2550 West, which is sloughing away. Suzie Becker of Wikstrom Economic presented an impact fees analysis for Marriott-Slaterville City. The Impact Fees Act allows cities to charge such fees to mitigate the impacts of new development. These include Sewer, Public Safety, Parks and Open Space, Roadway Impact Fees. Her handouts were given to the Council for their perusal. The annual compensation ordinance was passed and approved which set compensation for elected and statutory officers of the City. There was no increase for the council, but the Mayor and the Recorder received an increase. Weber County called Mayor Butler designating Saturday, June 22, for ail residents to look on their property for any signs of Elizabeth Smart, who was abducted from her Salt Lake home recently. All citizens are asked to assist the statewide search in this manner. 82 |
