Show We're Proud of the Athletes We "Grow" in Marriott-Slaterville City Fremont High School Newsletter, December 2002 Girls Cross Country team ranked in top 25 nationally The Fremont High School girls cross country team is ranked #20 in the nation according to the final 2002 Nike/ Footlocker Super 25 High School Cross Country Rankings released in November. Fremont completed their state championship season ranked as #20 followed by Davis High (#21), Orem High (#23) and Mountain View (#24). Our three-time girls' state champions are the top team in a state that is nationally recognized for its quality cross country teams. Senior Jamie Stubbs won the 5-A individual title while leading her team to an upset victory over favored Davis High at the state finals. Other members of the state championship team are Cassie Ricks, Jerrica Hall, Annie Larsen, Lindsey Slater, Sunnie Hansen and Danielle Retallick. Jamie is the only senior on this year's team and is being heavily recruited by colleges and universities both inside and outside of Utah. Congratulations to this State Champion team as well as their coach, Mr. Art Hansen. Great coach, great student athletes, great results!!! Wendy's High School Heisman Award winner Billy Green earns state kudos as recipient of Heisman honor Billy Green, son of William and Debra Green, was recently named as the male Utah finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award. Billy will now compete against other state finalists on a national level. Twelve national semifinalists will be determined during the week of December 2-6, and national winners will be named on December 15. ESPN2 will feature all 12 national semifinalists during the Wendy's High School Heisman Awards Ceremony. Billy was cited as the state winner for "exemplifying leadership on teams, in classrooms and in the community." He currently serves as Fremont High's studentbody president and has earned athletic status as the state's 5-A heavyweight wrestling champion for the past two years. Billy is also an AAU national powerlifting champion. Over 13,000 student athletes were nominated by their respective high schools for this recognition sponsored by Wendy's, Inc. Congratulations, Billy, on earning this national recognition for outstanding accomplishment athletically and academically! 140 |
