Show Thursday, December 9 Royal Eccles birthday. I gave a talk and display of the articles we brought from Mexico & Central America to the Spanish High School Class this afternoon. A terriable East wind blew all night doing some damage. It has been a cold windy day but has subsided tonight. Tribune strikers on the job. again. War news look better. We feel quite sure our son Lt. Col. Thair c Rich is on his way over the Atlantic. Very anxious for his welfare. Friday, December 10 Mrs Yona Japenese help today. Did a big days work. Paid her 50 cts an hr. Have been very buisy myself. Quite a bad accident occurred on U.I.C. R.R. this A.M. 44 boys from Logan on train & many of them cut & bruised. Dr does the U.I.C. work but since they were in U.S. care they were taken care of by the U.S. Drs. Dr came home quite tired tonight. As a rule we spend the evening reading & listening to radio news. Saturday, December 11 Sunday, December 12 The war seems more favorable to the Allies all the time. Yesterday the Americans brought down 138 planes over Emdow. Russians hurl back Nazis west of Kiev & destroy 103 tanks & destroy or kill 1,500 enemy troops. Allies destroy five U. boats in two days in the Atlantic. Yanks seize vital heights in Rome. Certainly this is a cruel war. We are very anxious about Thairs trip over the Atlantic as he is now in N.Y. ready to go over. |
