Show Dr. and Mrs. E. I. Rich Honored by Medical Group (Continued from Preceding Page) he brought into the world on his recent birthday, April 9, completed his record of 5,675 babies during his practice. While Doctor Rich was being feted at the hotel, Mrs. Rich was being honored at a dinner party at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Vern L. Ward by the auxiliary to the Weber County Medical society. Mrs. Joseph R. Morrell, Mrs. R. L. Draper and Mrs. O. S. Daines were in charge of arrangements. The group was entertained by Mrs. Rich as she related her reminiscences during the years of her husbands practice. I had no idea of the company we used to have at our house for over night guests, she said, until I got out my diary and looked it over. Transportation was so bad in those days, people had to stay over night. Mrs. Rich told of how she would wait up nights for the doctor, keeping up the fires in the stoves and his meal warm on the kitchen range. It was so inconvenient then in comparison to what it is now, she said, and having my family along with it all, kept me pretty busy. Mrs. Rich spoke of how she played telephone girl all hours of the day and night, as people were unable to get into town very often and they would call on the doctors to go to them. She also spoke of the difficulties encountered in keeping everything sanitary in those days, which is so important in the practice of medicine. Mrs. Rich told of many interesting incidents that happened in her career as a doctors wife. Doctor Rich is exceptionally modest as to his accomplishments in life, but has one weakness...his pride for his family, the success of which he attributes mostly to his wife, Mrs. Rich. Doctor and Mrs. Rich are the parents of seven sons and daughters: Mrs. G. Oscar Russell, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Royal Eccles and Mrs. Joseph W. Brewer of Ogden; Major Junior Edward Rich of the U. S. army medical corps at Yuma, Ariz.; Mrs. Junius H. Smart, Oakdale, Calif.; Lieut. Col. Thair C. Rich of the medical corps of the U. S. army at Fort Jackson, S. C.; Mrs. H. Taylor Peery, San Mateo, Calif, wife of Major Peery of the U. S. army at Oakland, Calif. He has 27 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. |
