Description	This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins.

OCR Text	Show Wednesday, December 29 Have done very little today. Oertel and Robert came up today. My sister Lucile & Dr Hancock gave a very nice dinner for our family & friends in honor of Junior who is on leave for a few days from Bakersfield Air Base Hospital. He is staff surgeon there. Dr and I came home early. Major Junior Edward Rich left for his post at Bakersfield, Calif., Thursday morning after spending the holidays with his wife and family. Dr. and Mrs. Heber Hancock entertained at a family dinner at their home Wednesday evening in compliment to Major and Mrs. Rich. Attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Adam Patterson, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Wallace H. Ellis, Mrs. John Franklin Ellis, Dr. and Mrs. John Franklin Ellis, Dr. and Mrs. Edward I. Rich, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Brewer and Mrs. G. Oscar Russell of Salt Lake City. Friday, December 31 This has been a quiet day at home I have written letters to Thair over seas to Cloteel in Los Angeles, to David R Peery in Palo Alto, to Carlyn in Oakdale Calif. to Avon. All thank you letters for Christmas gifts. Dr has some cold so retired early. We have several in. of snow. Roads are very slippery. The past year has been very good to us though our two sons Junior & Thair & our son in law H Taylor Peery are in the U.S. War service they have all been very fortunate to be commissioned officers & serve in U.S. until last month Lt Col. Thair C. Rich was called to over seas duty. The War is terriable all over the world but U.S. & allies are very successful the past six mo. Special Data 1. Our granddaughter Claire Eccles was married Dec. 28 in Denver to Aviation Cadet Reed Shaw. Her family did not know until they received a telegram. We all feel badly. 2 Junior E. Rich major. M.C. at Stockton assigned to Yuma Arizona Jan. 15, 1943. 3 Lt Col. T.C. Rich went to Camp Jackson Feb. 314 Avon R. Smart came home from Calif Jan. 24 5 Edward I Rich M.D. is intitled to wear the Official Emblem of the Citizens Defense Corps and the insignia designating member of Medical Unit, by Utah Council of Defense.
