Oct 1943 Niece of Almira C. Rich S. L. Girl Reaches Fame In Opera Jayne Cozzens To Sing Philadelphia Lead Jayne Cozzens, 24, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David R. Cozzens, 1204 McClelland St., will take the leading coloratura roles with the Philadelphia Opera Company for the 1943 44 season. Miss Cozzens, a former student of the University of Utah and East High School, sang minor roles with the San Francisco Opera Company several years ago. She now has a scholarship to study with the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York. A recent New York concert had her featured with Arturo Toscaninnis orchestra. A radio star as well as opera singer, Miss Cozzens is a staff member of the National Broadcasting Company. She sings with the Evening in Paris Heres to Romance program each Sunday afternoon. She sings for sustaining programs twice a week, many of which are sent to soldiers overseas. For four weeks in May, 1942, she was guest artist with the Contented Hour. At one time when a. vocalist was needed on the Johns Other Wife radio serial, Miss Cozzens played the character for several weeks. A student of Richard Condie in Salt Lake, she went to San Francisco eight years ago. After several years there she was urged to go to New York by talent scouts from the Metropolitan Opera Company. Once in New York she won a scholarship with the opera company. NEW HEIGHTS are reached in the career of Jayne Cozzens, 24 year old Salt Laker, who will sing a leading role with the Philadelphia Opera Company. Already a star of note as a singer on radio programs Jayne has won a scholarship with the Metropolitan Opera Company. In May, 1942, Miss Cozzens was married to Kelly Dalton, a radio singer, in Chicago. A member of the Dalton trio which sang on Major Bowes professional program. Mr. Dalton is now employed in a defense industry. The Philadelphia company Is scheduled for more than 100 performances on tours throughout the United States and Canada and in its regular Philadelphia series.
