Representative for Utah’s Second Congressional District, spoke to several Social Studies classes recently. He stressed that the American people govern the United States and that they exercise this power by voting for the person they feel most qualified to hold an office. He touched on several world issues: Cuba, South Viet Nam, Panama, and the Civil Rights Bill, now before the Senate. He later turned to the home scene, discussing various aspects of Utah’s economy. This year Jan Gardiner, Jeanne Nielson, Tamara Quick, and Linda Watts will represent Ben Lomond in this nation-wide Test. Local and state committees will judge these students for their written and literary awareness. The winners will receive notification by the NCTE in December of this year and will have their names sent to every U. S. college and_ university with the recommendation that they receive consideration for scholarship assistance. BONNIE LASSIES SELECTED NSS ? David Bott plans to spend the next few years studying Civil Engineering at Weber State College. Kathy Wilson plans to attend Utah State where she intends to study for four years, then graduate. She is uncertain about the future after college but she expects to marry and raise a family. i Brigham Young University will serve as a home for Jean McAllister where she will major in political science and languages. She would then like to enter some type of foreign service work. Ann Thomas plans to attend Weber State College for two years and then the University of Utah to major in drama. “Of course, I plan to marry and rear a family some day. The officers feel sentimental about leaving B.L. They have enjoyed their three years here and the opportunities it has offered them.
