Show June 13, 2002 (Cont'd) I-15 From 1A "There's not a whole lot you can do about it," said Riverdale resident Telisha Houston. "Almost every avenue in Ogden is doing something and as soon as you find a road that's not, they close that road." Lisa White of Ogden said she has to drive from Center-ville to the Utah-Idaho border nearly everyday for her job as a pediatric physical therapist and construction hampers that. "I have to work a lot more hours," she said. "Basically I can't do my job and see my patients." It's only going to be more difficult with the newest rehabilitation project, she said. The roadway from 31st Street to Marriott-Slaterville, which was originally constructed in the late 1960s, has had repairs "here and there" in the past, but never to the extent of the upcoming project, Neff said. Although the project won't create additional lanes, it does prepare UDOT for a project scheduled in the next five to 10 years that will add lanes from 31st Street to Farr West. Hoping to minimize the impact on motorists, the project's contractor, Granite Construction Co., will work around the clock seven days a week. The transportation department has offered incentives to the company if it finishes ahead of schedule, and disincentives if its finishes behind schedule. Transportation officials are meeting with county commissions, chambers of commerce and local businesses from Davis County to Cache Valley to disseminate project information. It is also working with the Idaho Transportation Department and travel councils to tell tourists traveling through the area. Other UDOT projects include: There are no lane restrictions at the intersection of 1900 West and 5600 South in Roy where intersection im- provements are being made. This is scheduled to be completed in August. Traffic is limited to two lanes on I-15 from State Road 193 in Clearfield to 31st Street in Ogden for a rehabilitation project. The project is scheduled to be completed sometime in June. ? Construction continues on Wall Avenue from 23rd Street to 33rd Street for rehabilitation. Traffic is limited to one lane each direction. This project is scheduled to be completed in October. The northbound off-ramp in Roy is closed for rehabilitation until the end of June. ? Traffic is limited to one lane each direction at the intersection of 1900 West and 12th Street for bridge re- placement, intersection improvements and road widening. Scheduled completion is in the fall of 2003. Construction continues in Logan Canyon where the project scope includes pavement reconstruction, addition of two passing lanes, replacement of three bridges and two box culverts, shoulder widening, clear zone exten- sion and several intersection improvements and curve realignments. This is scheduled to be completed in October. TOP OF UTAH REACTIONS: How do you cope with driving during the construction season?' "You try to avoid it as much as possible by pre-planning and picking a street that isn't under construction. And I stay off Wall (Avenue) as much as possible." -Steve Hall, Roy "I try to avoid it by taking different routes and planning different ways to go. You understand but it kind of gets boring." - Pauline Purser, Kaysville "I'm used to it. Basically the thing is to know where you're going and plan ahead of time." - Bart Heslington, Marriott-Slaterville "It's difficult since my job involves driving 100 miles a day. I make sure I have my phone with me, snacks and drink, so I'm not just waiting." -Lisa White, Ogden 43 |
