Scott G. Worthen, 46, was convicted in 1984 by a Davis County jury for the 1983 battering death of his 3-year-old stepdaughter. After he was sentenced to prison on the murder charge that year, Worthen was paroled in August 1992. He re-married two years later. Last September, an underage teenaged girl reported she had been the victim for several years of an ongoing molestation by Worthen, according to North Ogden police. The offenses occurred in Marriott-Slaterville. The case was transferred to the agency because Worthen has a relative employed at the Weber County Sheriff's Office, which provides law enforcement to Marriott-Slaterville. Worthen faces sentencing Feb. 21 before 2nd District Judge Michael Lyon on a charge of attempted forcible sexual abuse, a third-degree felony, and two felony counts of possession of firearms by a restricted person, charges he pleaded guilty to last month as part of a plea bargain. State, law bans anyone convicted of a violent felony, as Worthen was in 1984, from ownership of firearms. Worthen was found to own sever-al hunting rifles and handguns during the molestation investigation, North Ogden Detective Bill Aeschlimann said. In the murder case, Worthen was convicted in the beating death of 3-year-old Heidi Pavich. An autopsy ruled the cause of death to be multiple blunt force injuries, according to court documents. According to medical testimony at trial the child's body was covered with bruises received over the six months prior to her death.
