AND ALL THAT FUN All was not serious business in our city. Part of the good life we enjoy, are the enjoyable activities we have in our community. On May 17, 2008, a very successful Tennis Block Party was held at BDO Tennis Courts from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., a joint effort with the Marriott-Slaterville Association, our city, Harrisville City and the Utah Chapter of the U. S. Tennis Association. There were prizes, a drawing and refreshments. Participation in the event grows each year. Summer tennis lessons were also announced, beginning June 9, 2008. In its third year, the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire was held this year in Marriott-Slaterville City at Millcreek Hollow on West Pioneer Road. It was held on May 9-11 and 16-18, 2008, and featured family fun as they take a step back in time, seeing knights and strolling actors reminding them of life at an earlier time. Residents of Marriott-Slaterville City always look forward to lots of fun during the July Fourth Independence Day Celebration. It began, as usual, with the Tenth Annual Golf Tournament, held this year at the Ben Lomond Golf Course, under the direction of Danny Brown, on July 2, 2008. About 40 people participated, and scored so well that three teams tied for first place. An 8:00 a.m. breakfasts were held at the Marriott Park and the LDS Church Bowery. The Freedom Celebration began on July 4, with a 5K Run/Walk with Robert Hirschi in charge of the run from the Marriott Park to the Marriott-Slaterville L.D.S. church and back. Ryan Ortega won the men's race, with Jo Gullo winning for the women. Lindsey Slater Ortega, who lived in our city until her recent marriage, came in second. 17 |
