Show Obituaries 2008 Norine Hoskins Mecham MARRIOTT- SLATERVILLE -Surrounded by her loving family, Norine Hoskins Mecham, 82, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, July 7, 2008. Born July 11, 1925, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Theresa and Elijah Van Hoskins, Norine was the oldest of eight children. She was faced with responsibility at an early age for much of her childhood was spent working in the fields of Idaho with her parents. After earning a college degree and R.N. at Thomas Dee Memorial Hospital, she enlisted in the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. After the war she met her husband Darrell G. Mecham while dancing at the White City Ballroom in Ogden. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple, May 8, 1947 and made their home and raised their family in Marriott. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various Ward callings and especially loved that of being a Primary Teacher. Until her retirement, she had worked as an R.N. at Thomas Dee Memorial, St. Benedict's, and Ogden Regional Hospitals, Weber-Morgan Health Department and Weber School District. She was an active member of the D.U.P. Norine was a very compassionate person, an extremely hard worker and always ready to use her knowledge and experience to help those around her, especially her family. Norine is survived by her husband, Darrell, of Marriott-Slaterville; Children: Linda (Giles) Crowton, Washington Terrace; Elaine (Marc) Durham, Rancho Bernardo, CA; Alan (Kathie) Mecham, West Haven; Steven (Karen) Mecham, Marriott-Slaterville; Diane (Brent) Wood, Eden; Carolyn Rutherford, Marriott-Slaterville; 25 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister and four brothers: Helen Hoskins, Lamar (Bonnie) Hoskins, Conel Hoskins, Larry Hoskins, and Keith Hoskins. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, an infant daughter Kathy, and son, Dennis. The family would like to thank the wonderful family, friends, and neighbors for their support and prayers, as well as Dr. Brent Williams and the IHC Hospice organization. Martin SLATERVILLE - Gary L. Martin, 62, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008 surrounded by his family and friends. He was born June 9, 1946 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Emerson and Hazel Higley Martin. He married the love of his life, Marsha Skinner on May 14, 1977 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She passed away in May, 2003. Gary attended Weber High School and Weber State College, He was very successful in life, always trying to recognize opportunity, and welcome new challenges. Throughout his life he was an exceptional heavy equipment mechanic and could fix anything. Gary was a devoted husband, father and grandpa and enjoyed every minute. He loved being outdoors, spending time with his family and friends. Surviving is one son, Brandon L. (Angie) Martin of Ogden; two very special grandchildren, Tyson and Bailey, three daughters Michelle Hess (Jay) grandchildren Chantay, Kenzley of Farmington; Kimberly Townsend (Chris) grandchildren Hilary and Drew of AZ and Rebecca Long (Tom) grandchildren Brody, AZ. Also surviving are two sisters, Sherma Barton and two sons Rick and Scott of Hooper; and Darlene Bernard and son Jeff of MA; one brother, Emerson Jr. Martin of Roy; several nieces and nephews Ben, Jerry and Terry and a special friend Kaye Freeland of Layton. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Wayne Martin. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Marriott-Slaterville 3rd Ward, 1500 West 250 North with Bishop Kim Slater presiding. Send condolences to family at www.myers-mortuary.com Diane Farr Higley SLATERVILLE - Diane Farr Higley, 53, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at her home, from cancer. She was born June 6, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Wayne Farr and Karma Hill Simpson. She was raised and educated in Clearfield, Utah graduating from Clearfield High School in 1973. She moved to Hooper where she raised her family for 25 years before moving to Slaterville. She married Mark Lythgoe Higley in the Ogden LDS Temple and they later divorced. Diane was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in various callings. She volunteered at the Deseret Industries in the homemaking department. Diane was a homemaker and a great mother. She loved to travel and visited places all over the world. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Diane is survived by four children, Justin M. (Stacy) Higley, Hooper; Lori (Brock) Litanski, Pleasant View; Brock J. (Tiffanie) Higley, West Haven; Tara (Kevin) Owens, Clearfield; nine grandchildren; her parents, Karma (Wayne) Simpson, Clinton; Wayne (Faye) Farr, Syracuse; four sisters, Susan (Keith) Hodson, Clinton; Sandy (Brent) Cun-ningham, Ogden; Sally (Ted) Phelps, West Point; Kelly Jo Robinson, Syracuse; one brother, Kenneth Farr, Clearfield; and her grandmother, Vontella Farr. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alan Farr, Grandma and Grandpa Hill and Grandpa Farr. The family would like to thank all of her family, friends, nurses and Dr. Grey for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 11th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
