Marriott-Slaterville History January 2008 The council requested the staff to research how other cities handle beer sales at venues. The matter will be considered at the February meeting. Farr West City is currently reviewing their alcohol service policy. The city has purchased playground equipment, which the council felt should be placed in the southwest corner of the Marriott Park. The park committee had recommended the same site. After discussion, Ordinance 2008-01 was passed unanimously by the council. This ordinance changes the duties of each department in anticipation of hiring new staff. The city is looking at possibly hiring a new employee over Community Services, which includes public works, parks, and planning. Mayor Keith Butler recommended approval of the ordinance. The city's insurance carrier, in response to recent litigation concerning residential solicitation, has recommended the modification of the current solicitation ordinance, to fit the licensing plan. After review of the ordinance, the council unanimously approved Ordinance 2008-02. The Venture Academy which will be built at 400 North 1500 West, in our city, held an informational meeting for parents of prospective students, on January 26, at 7 p.m. at the city offices. Additional meetings will be held in February, March and April. Jimmy Blair, owner of Mulligan's Golf and Games plans a spring grand opening of Toad's Fun Zone, as the business is now known. At present, much of the area is open for fun. A new 30,000 square foot building will house part of the new facility which will include arcade games, laser tag, go-carts and a viewing area. A "breakfast restaurant" and pizza bar, a softball and fast-pitch batting cages, and a climbing wall are part of the area. For golfers, it still features a driving range, a putting range, a new 36 miniature golf course, and the original 18-hole miniature golf course. The redesigned 9-hole course is expected to be ready in 2009. The Weber County Animal Service announced its winter rabies clinics to be held on January 12 and 26, and February 2 and 9, at the Shelter. Dog licenses are also available, either new or renewed. Bits and Pieces One of our oldest residents, Julian Powell, celebrated his 97th birthday on January 20, 2008. Auditions were held in January for strolling performers for the Utah Renaissance Faire, which will be held in May in Marriott-Slaterville City. This year's Faire will be its third year, the second in our city, but the first at the location on the Tippetts' farm. 116
