Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY February 2008 February brought continued snow and cold, and this year we had an additional winter day in February. We didn't need the groundhog to see his shadow to know we would have six more weeks of winter. The huge piles of snow on plowed parking lots were higher than the parked cards. There were fewer complaints expressed than appreciation for the mountain snowpack which will again fill our reservoirs. At the February 21, 2008, City Council meeting, business licenses were approved for TDB Solutions, 1554 South 1100 West, Suite #1, Electrical Engineering; Utah Renaissance Festival, 3100 West Pioneer Road, Festival, and Tazueria LaTapatia, 777 West 12th Street, Free Standing Taco Stand. The city has a copy of the permit issued to Pablo A Alcalde by the Weber County Health Department, for the mobile food stand. The stand will usually be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and only open during daylight hours. At the January council meeting, City Administrator Bill Morris was asked to research how beer licensing for special events were handled by other cities. He reported that West Haven issued a temporary special event beer license for an activity at Parsons. No beer is allowed at city parks, but special events not at the city park, may be approved by the council. Park City issues temporary beer licenses for special events, and Ogden allows beer sales for festivals subject to state permission. Cedar City does not sell beer at the Shakespeare Festival, but they do have beer sales at some events like demolition derbies. Farr West, Plain City and Harrisville do not allow temporary beer sales for special events. Wellsville does not issue beer licenses for the Festival of the American West. After discussion, the council voted in favor of leaving the ordinance status quo for temporary beer sales. The council requested the staff to draft a proposed ordinance on beer sales with food at restaurants for review at the next meeting. Mr. Ned Hacker, representing Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) gave each council member a handout regarding the council. He explained the role of the WFRC in planning and organizing short and long range transportation plans, in accordance with federal law. The council discussed action for the Fred Johns Subdivision (5 lots) at about 2000 West 250 North. The property is a combination of C-2 and A-1. Three lots are reserved for future commercial use and two lots will be used for moderate income residential, for homes for Mr. Johns and his son, similar to surrounding homes. Proof of water rights must be submitted to Bona Vista Water District. Staff recommends a deferral agreement be entered for curb, gutter, storm water, and sidewalk. The council unanimously approved the subdivision. The developer of Mill Creek Plaza at 250 North 1900 West proposes to add two new buildings to this site. They will be professional offices similar to those already existing. The Planning Commission recommends approval, stipulating that all staff and engineering requirements are met. After discussion, all council members voted in favor of approval. Bill Morris discussed with the council a handout regarding grants and proposed projects, asking approval of expenses including installation of utilities at the city hall park, expansion of the city hall parking lot, and assembly of the Marriott Park playground equipment. In addition, Ogden City is aware of a 10" sanitary sewer line running east and west on the north side of 12th street, near or along the mutual border with Marriott-Slaterville, presumed to be owned and operated by Ogden City. The City Engineers in both cities determined that the line is in need of immediate repair and maintenance. Only four users are serviced by the line. Staff of both cities have met and recommend that the sewer line be transferred to Marriott-Slaterville City for ownership, operation and maintenance. It will better serve the business district on the south side of 12th Street in our city. The cities propose to enter an agreement regarding this 117 |
