An 8:00 a.m. breakfast will be held at the Marriott Park or the LDS Church Bowery. The parade will be at 1030 a.m., from 700 South on 1200 West to Marriott Park. Lunch and activities at the Marriott Park will begin at 11:00 am. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be sold. There will be games, a giant slide, candy cannons, pie eating contests and prizes. Pam Slater is again in charge of the celebration. An Evening of Music at the Park will be held this year on July 19, and August 16, 2008. Residents were invited to enjoy music, local talent and socialize with friends and family, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Summer tennis lessons were also announced, beginning June 9, 2008. Summer road projects expected to commence soon include chip seal roads in Spencer Farms and Mill Creek Meadows, and skin patch and chip seal along 2050 West from Les Syme's property on 700 South to 2250 West (Shay Holley property), and spot skin patch and full chip seal of 1200 West from the IRS Annex to Wahlquist Junior High School. At the June 19, 2008, City Council Meeting, business licenses were approved for Weber Valley Dialysis, 1920 West 250 North, kidney dialysis service; Intermountain Auto, 1470 South 1200 West, auto sales, and Pampered Pets, 2824 West Pioneer Road, pet grooming. Ken Martin advised that Intermountain Auto's office will be in the city, but the cars will remain in Ogden. All sales tax will come to the city. At the same meeting, several ordinances and resolutions were discussed and acted upon. Ordinance 2008-05, a zoning map amendment from A-1 to M-1, requested by BNB Company, was first. City Administrator Bill Morris said that the Planning Commission recommended the request be denied. The company, located at 960 West 1700 South, has been in violation of city ordinances for operating a junk yard/salvage business, and also for a storm water violation. The application did not include the required concept plan. In approving this ordinance, the city would be condoning the illegal use. A zoning change to M-1 (manufacturing zone) would still not allow junk car storage. After discussion and vote, the ordinance failed. A part of the UDOT project of reconstructing 12th Street will be our city installing a 27" storm drain for about 1205 feet on 1200 West. UDOT will contribute $92,500.00 to the project; Weber County will contribute $60,300.00, and the city will fund the remainder. Jones and Associates has performed the engineering work and sent out bids for the project. The bid opening was on June 17, 2008. Brent Slater, of Jones and Associates, presented the bid opening report to the council, listing the amounts from low to high. He indicated they have reviewed all the bids and found no errors. Based upon the information and recommendation of Jones and Associates, the council voted to award the contract to Leon Poulsen Construction, as the low bidder, with the mayor authorized to execute the paperwork. The Marriott-Slaterville Business Park was created on May 9, 2005. As part of the subdivision, the city obtained a small 15' trail easement over Lot 5, which was mistakenly recorded by the county as creating a new parcel. The city desires to correct the mistake as set forth in a Quit Claim Deed, which still retains for the city an easement over the parcel for the trail. This action was approved unanimously by the council in Resolution 2008-H. Big "W Subdivision on Pioneer Road has request the elimination of the holding strip along the western edge of the subdivision for future development. This action is recommended by the Planning Commission, and the council voted in favor of the request. 127 |
