Show Marriottt-Slaterville History December 2008 The CERT Emergency Management members urge residents to take time to prepare for an emergency or disaster. Hopefully, we wilt not face a disaster, but being prepared alleviates many problems. They suggest: Plan: Consider disasters: Practice your family emergency plan. Prepare and practice a plan for various types of emergencies, such as fire, earthquakes, floods, and severe storms. Read and review. A 72-hour kit: Keep your plan updated, and review it often. Prepare and keep current your 72-hour emergency kit. We have seen fires, flooding, violent winds and storms this year in our nation. People have had to rely on their own preparations for days or weeks. Any experienced ham radio operation who would like to volunteer such services in the community in a disaster, is asked to contact City Administrator Bill Morris at his office. The Planning Commission Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 16, 2008, was cancelled. The day-to-day business of the city still continued during the excitement of the holidays. At the City Council Meeting on December 18, 2008, the following business licenses were approved: Big Bubba's Trailer Sales and Manufacturing, 1759 W. 12th Street, trailer sales. Allied Waste Services, 798 W. 17th Street, solid waste collection and disposal. Hancock Insurance, 1920 West 250 North, Suite #12, Insurance Company. DeLair Insurance Management, 1920 W. 250 N., Suite #9, Insurance Company. G-Force Enterprises, LLC, 812 West 17h Street, wood pallets and snow removal. Perkes Roofing, 1073 West 1500 South, roofing business. Ryan Child, Independent Auditor, told the council that his firm has completed the annual independent audit of the city and has prepared the financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008. He reviewed highlights from the audit and the income and expenditures in the financial statements and the balance sheets. He said the city is in good financial shape, has a good surplus, and is in overall compliance. He will submit the audit report to the state. Copies of the report are available for the public upon request. The Annual Independent Audit was accepted by the council unanimously. Randy Phipps, City Trails Coordinator, gave the council a map from Weber Pathways showing the trails that they have completed and those in process. He will again be participating in the Weber Pathways program as the ex-officio member from our city, volunteering approximately 8 hours a month on the program. Deputy Pittman requested that Ordinance 2008-12 be amended to allow deputies to tow vehicles parked on a road during a snow storm immediately, rather than wait two hours for the vehicle to be moved, as at present. The amended Ordinance 2008-12 was approved unanimously. City Administrator Bill Morris read an e-mail from the WFRC concerning foreclosures and derelict properties in the county. This is part of the Consolidated Ran required by HUD in order to receive CDBG funds. The three main parts of the plan are housing, community development and general economic development. This year the emphasis is on communities that have a higher than average foreclosure rate and deteriorating housing stock, which are identified in the Consolidated Plan and Marriott-Slaterville. Our city ranks second highest in derelict properties in the county. The new Neighborhood Stabilization Program under the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 appropriates $3.92 billion dollars to be used to (1) establish financing mechanisms for purchase and redevelopment of foreclosed homes, (2) purchase or rehabilitate homes and residential properties which have been abandoned or foreclosed, in order to sell, rent or redevelop, (3) establish land banks for homes 145 |
