JRichard Mayfield, class of 1969, has been /named: Davis County Planning Director. He J will oversee planning , economic development nd building inspection. Prior to accepting his new appointment in Utah, Richard was presi‘}dent of his own consulting firm in Bozeman, ‘}Montana, and was planning director for ) Boseman City and County. He was an assistant ) Davis County planner from 1966 to 1969, and ‘was associate planning director at Helena. Capt. George R. Ficklin, class of 1970, was selected as the Tactical Air Command F-111 Instructor Pilot of the Year (1981) from the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing located at Mountain Home AFB. He has been flying the F-111 for nine years with a three-year tour of duty at RAF Lakenheath, England. At present he is at MacDill AFB, Florida, qualifying to fly the F-16, and has orders for Hill Air Force Base in July. Dennis C. Cones class of 1970, was named vice president of University Research Corp., a Maryland based professional services firm. He is also the director of a research grant to study the interstate enforcement of child support obligations. he has served as director of the Office of Recovery Services for the State of Utah. Karl S. Robertson, class of 1971, has been named a senior vice president in charge of branch administration of the Bank of Utah. He was manager of the Bank of Northern Utah until its merger with the Bank of Utah. Allen E. Hall, class of 1971, has been named president of Ballet West. Formerly he was ex-ecutive vice president and general manager of ‘the dance company. Hall joined Ballet West in 1980 after serving as the Executive Director of Alumni Relations at WSC. Curtis Youngman, class of 1972 and former faculty member, has been named president of the executive committee of the Utah State Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Assn. He is presently in his fifth year as business instructor at Utah Technical College at Salt. Lake. Dr. Michael Healy, class of 1972, has opened a medical practice at St. Benedict's Hospital Professional Bldg., specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. He received his medical degree from George Washington University and did his internship and residency at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix. Michael J. Dawson, class of 1973, is a graduate of the University of Utah College of Law. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dawson of Roy. Byron Knight, class of 1974, has been appointed to fill the remaining term of a coun_cilman on the Harrisville Planning Commission. He is manager of the Chapel of Flowers Mortuary in the Aultorest Memorial Park Cemetery. He has served five years with the planning commission. After graduating from WSC he earned a degree in business administration from LaSalle Extension University in Chicago. Knight has been treasurer of the Mt. Ogden Rotary Club, is a member of the Five Points Lions Club and is on the board of directors of the Utah Cemetery Assn. he is married to the former Janice Dabb and the father of five children. Larry L. Hansen, class of 1974, was named a Certified Credit Union Executive by the Credit Union National Assn., and a member of the CCUE board of examiners. He is vice president and loan administrator for the Federal oo Credit Union in Ogden. Mark C. Masur, class of 1975, has accepted the position of Corporate Finance Officer with the First Interstate Bank of Dallas, | Texas, in their Venture : Capitol Division. He has been » with ‘Astin Corp. of Greenwich, Connecticut, until recently. Mark was ASWSC vice president, and after his graduation attended Denver University. His mother, former Utah State Representative, | Dorthea E. Masur, said while Mark was at Denver U he wrote an article giving credit to WSC for the individual attention he received | here, and for the fact that he was so well prepared in his educational experience. She! said he returns to Ogden several times each year to visit family and friends. His father is Marvin C. Masur. Bud M. Compton, class of 1977, who is an electronics engineer in the 1954 Radar Evaluation Squadron at Hill AFB, Utah, participated in the NATO-Air Force Electronics Warfare Symposium at Ramstein Air Base, Germany recently. He presented a paper titled “Critical Planning Factors in the Tactical Deployment of Mobile Radars." After his graduation from WSC he earned a master of science degree from University of Utah. He taught aviation subjects at WSC and Ogden High School, and has worked in the radar evaluation field for more than two years. Elbert S. Curtis, class of 1977, was named operations officer at the Hill Air Force Bank East office of First Security Bank. He joined First Security as a credit examiner in 1973, and most recently served as operations officer at the Ogden 12th Street office. After his graduation from WSC, he attended UCLA, and the University of San Fernando College of Law. Michael Eckersley, class of 1978, has opened an art exhibit at the Heritage Museum in Layton, Utah. The one-man show includes four of his paintings, four sculptures and two wall installations. After his graduation from WSC he earned a master's from Washington University, School of Fine Arts in St. Louis. He has exhibited at the Salt Lake Art Center, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, the Maryland Invitational, the Steinberg Museum in St. Louis and other galleries. Se 1930's Bobbi Jones, class of 1979, is the videoconference coordinator for the Utah Division of the American Assn. of University Women on June 28 to be held at University of Utah, beginning at 1 p.m. The conference will deal with home/work dilemma faced by two-career families and single-parent families, male and female. It will feature a special nationally sponsored video program relayed from San Francisco to the University by KUED, as well as several widely-known guest speakers. Headquarters at March AFB, California, where he will be working as a logistics controller in the Combat Operations Center. He was previously assigned to Custer AFB, California as a maintenance officer. Iris Hemenway, class of 1978, is now director of Park View Corrections Center in Ogden. The program is unique to the Utah corrections system in that it offers service to those who are considered inmates of the State Prison, but are living in the Center. Laura Swenson, class of 1978, received a master’s degree in social work from University of Utah in 1980, and was recently assigned to be a clinical social worker for the Division of Family Services. Her special assignment is working with the victims, families and perpetuators of sexually abused children. 1980's classes of 1967 and 1980, received a master’s degree in social work from University of Utah last year. She is now employed at the Wyoming State Hospital in Evanston in charge of psychiatric admissions, and also works with adolescent patients. Scott N. Thomas, class of 1981, has been appointed Timeway Loan Officer of the Roosevelt Office of First Security Bank of Utah. The team of Kelly Crawford, Sue Best and Kurt Park, class of 1980, won first place honors in the “Sputum Bowl" competition in Salt Lake City. The annual competition is a general knowledge test about emergency critical care, equipment, anatomy and physiology, air-way care and continuous ventilation. They represented St. Benedict's Hospital, and are all graduates of the WSC respiratory therapy program. J. Phillip Singleton, class of 1981, has recently graduated from an intensive sales training course for Burroughs Wellcome Co. He will be ‘a Sales : Representative for the company. which does research, and develops and manufactures pharmaceutical products. He will be located in Phoenix, Arizona. Robert Steven Griffey,class of 1982, has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the" U.S. Air Force after completing the ROTC program-at WSC. He was assigned for training at Lyndall AFB in Panama City, Florida,andwas) also trained as a weapons controller at Luke AFB, Glendale, Arizona. He and his wife, the former Adrianna Luttrell, and their two children will depart for assignment in Bremerhaven, Germany this month. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby D. Griffey of Roy. Carolyn Gentry, class of 1982, has taken a position as an investigator for the Recovery Services and Child Support Division in SaltLake City. She served as a volunteer probation officer for seven months re to her ap- . Robert E. Clayton, class of 1979, was promoted to the rank of Captain and inducted into the U.S. Air Force in March of this year. He has been reassigned to the 15th Air Force Lana Dreaden, Martha McDonald, class of 1980, went on to Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio, Texas for her master’s degree in social work. She returned to Utah to be the director of the Women's Crisis Center, and recently moved to the Weber County Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center where she is a therapist. Linda Ferguson Parker, class of 1980, and James A. Parker, Jr., class of 1981, were recently married. Jim is completing his first year at Gonzaga Law School, Spokane, Washington, and Linda is currently Publications Supervisor for Computer Sciences Corp.., Utah Test and Training Range at Hill AFB, Utah. David L. Drake, class of 1980, has been named head of office administration of Bank of Utah. He joined Bank of Utah in 1974 as systems and programming manager. He has had more than 20 years experience in ccmputer management and programming, including four years as a data processing instructor in the Navy. “ee Farrell R. Collett (former chairman of the art department) was selected as one of the 61 artists to exhibit their works at the first "Wildlife In Art" show sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation, at the Federation's Laurel Ridge Conservation Education Center in Vienna, Virginia in April. One of his paintings was awarded third place honors. 7 He was also honored by the: Brigham Young University Emeritus Club for his many. achievements in art. He holds a master’s degree from that institution. Margaret S. Jacobs (faculty, foods and nutrition 1957-1972) was also honored by the Brigham Young University Emeritus Club. She earned a master’s degree in home economics education at Columbia in 1936 and taught at BYU from 1929 to 1936 and from 1952 to 1956. She has served on the Utah Council and Weber County Board. State Nutrition Mental Health Former WSC President, Dr. Joseph L. Bishop, Jr. has been appointed as the new president of the missionary training center in Provo for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. He returned to his home in Salt Lake late last year after serving as president of the Argentina Buenos Aires North Mission for three years. ss : |
