Some detailed descriptive information as to the content of the course and the manner in which it is taught (whether it is straight lecture or includes laboratory and/or recitation sessions) is also shown. Courses that fill general education requirements are identified by the following alpha prefixes to the course number: HU—Humanities; LS—Life Science; PS—Physical Science; SS—Social Science; GE—Other. The numeric figure in parenthesis, e.g. (3), indicates the number of quarter hours of credit given for the course. Appearing near the end cf each course description, the letters Su, A, W, and S indicate the quarter(s) the course is normally taught—Su-Summer, A-Autumn, W-Winter, S-Spring. REGISTRATION Dates for registration each quarter are listed in the College calendar at the front of this catalog. The schedule of registration appointments is published in each quarter's class schedule, copies of which may be obtained from the Registration Office in the Administration Building. Registration procedures and courses to be offered are described in the class schedule. Registration for Currently Enrolled Students — During each quarter, students currently enrolled in school will be given an opportunity to register early for the following quarter at times and places announced. Students may not be required to complete their registration at that time by payment of fees. They must make payment of fees by the regular registration deadline to avoid the late fee penalty. Late Registration—Any registration completed after the fourth day of classroom instruction each quarter is subject to the late fee penalty. In such instances, the late entrance into the class must have the approval of the class instructor before consideration for acceptance by the Dean of Admissions and Records. Normal Registration—Normal registration for any one quarter is 15 quarter hours, exclusive of one hour of physical education activity (usually taken each quarter of the freshman year). Freshmen students are not permitted to register for upper division courses. Sophomore students may register for upper division courses with the signature approval of either the course instructor or the department chairman. Maximum Registration—Maximum registration without special permission is 20 credit hours each quarter. Students may petition for additional credit hours but they must meet the criteria set forth in the school policy. Petition forms are available in the academic department offices or the Registration Office. A student should have both a cumulative and the previous quarter grade point average of 3.0 (B) or higher before petitioning. Audit Course Registration—Students registering to audit a course are considered as regular students in determining part-time or full-time registration and are charged regular tuition and fees. Nevertheless, because of space and facility limitations some courses may not be open to auditor students. Therefore, students who plan to audit a course should check with the instructor before registering to learn if a particular course is open to auditor students or not. Participation in class activities by an auditor student may be limited at the discretion of an instructor. Credit/No-Credit Registration—Any student may register for courses on a j credit/no-credit basis. Freshmen students may register for only one course each quarter. A student who has completed 44 hours of college credit and who is not on academic warning or probation may register for no more than two courses each quarter. The student should declare this kind of registration on his original registration but will be permitted to make a change within the first 60% of the quarter. (Refer to Credit/No Credit Policy-index.) Changes in Registration—A student who wishes to make a change in the original schedule of courses may do so by personally making supplementary entry to the Official Registration Card on file in the Registration Office. Such changes should be made within the first two weeks of the quarter. 28 29 |
