Show Education — Child and Family Studies Education — Child and Family Studies Program: Child Development Major—Bachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). C. A minor is not required. D. Child Development majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. An overall G P. A. of 2.00 or C is required. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). II. Specific Requirements: A. Two 20-credit hour areas of concentration or one 20-credit hour area of concentration plus 25 additional credits of adviser-approved related courses. B. Child and Family Studies courses required (48 credit hours): 101 (3), 150 (5), 255 (3), 256 (4), 257 (3), 340 (4), 360 (3), 362 (4), 364 (2), 371 (3), 372 (6), 450 (3), 451 (3), 470 (3), 492 (1), 499A (2-4). C. Child and Family Studies courses to elect from: 140 (5), 315 (3), 335 (3), 483 (1-5), 492 (1-3). D. Recommended course: Child and Family Studies 486 (2-9). Program: Early Childhood Education Major—Bachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). Psychology 101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Early Childhood Education majors. C. A minor is not required. D. Early Childhood Education majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. Early Childhood Education majors must achieve an overall 2.25 G P. A. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). H. Students obtaining an Early Childhood Education major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program by completing the following courses: Education 195 (1), 300 (3), 324 (3), 325 (6), 326 (6), 360 (4), 488 (15). II. Specific Requirements: A. One 30-credit hour concentration in an adviser-approved subject matter area or two 15-credit hour concentrations in adviser- approved subject matter areas. B. Child and Family Studies courses required (34 credit hours): 150 (5), 256 (4), 257 (3), 360 (3), 362 (4), 364 (2), 371 (3), 372 (6), 451 (3), 470 (3), 492(1). C. Support courses required: Math PS 108 (4) and 109 (4); Communication 102 (3) (or an approved equivalent); English 330 (3); Physical Education 362 (3) or 364 (2); and a total of 6 hours from the following: Art 250 (3); Music 169 (3), 213 (3), 320 (3); Theatre Arts 420 (3); Education 343 (3). Program: Family Life Major—Bachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). C. In lieu of a minor, a concentration of 20 hours outside the Department of Child and Family Studies approved by the department adviser. D. Family Relations majors must have a "C" or better in major courses. E. An overall G.P.A. of 2.00 or C is required. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. 60 of the 183 hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 or above). H. A total of 60 hours constitutes this major with a minimum of 40 hours within the Department of Child and Family Studies. II. Specific Requirements: A. Child and Family Core Courses required for each of the five emphases listed below: 101 (3) or 201 (4), 110 or 115 (3), 140 (4), 150 (5), 299B (2-4), 340 (4), 245 (4), 499B (2-4). (The following Core Courses may be taken to fill General Education "other": 140 (4), 150 (5), 115 (3). III. Emphasis Available Within The Family Relations Major: A. Family Relations Emphasis: 315 (3), 364 (4), 440 (4), 465 (4), 483 (2-4), 486 (2-4), 499B (4). Additional hours to be arranged with department advisor according to student goals. Family Relations combines well with other areas of study across campus or it can be designed to allow a student to study within one or all of the five other areas of the department. Opportunities in extension service, social work, family support centers, journalism, TV, radio, and (with M.S. or PhD.) professional family counseling, research, or teaching college level. Check with advisor for related concentrations. B. Foods and Nutrition Emphasis: 204 (5), 286 (2-9), 300 (3), 402 or 492 (6-12), 460 (1-12), 486 (2-9), 316 (3), Management 110 (3), 315 (3). General Education classes strongly advised: Chemistry 111, 112, 113 (15); Human Physiology 201 (5); Microbiology 111 (5); Economics 101 (5). Excellent training for professionals in business, food industries, and institutions. C. Interior Design Emphasis: 120 (4), 121 (3), 321 (3), 325 (3), 486 (2-9) and other hours specified by department advisor; i.e., readings and related courses, inside of and outside of the department. (NOTE: Associate of Applied Science Degree available.) D. Consumer Education Emphasis: 110 or 115 (3), 315 (3), 316 (3), and other hours as specified by department advisor; i.e., readings and related courses. Training for professionals in credit bureaus, family financial centers, family services, Extension Service specialists, and home economists. E. Clothing & Textiles Emphasis: 130 (3), 133 (1-6), 230 (4), 235 (3), 330 (1-6), 335 (3) and other hours as specified by departmental advisor; i.e., practicums, readings, related courses inside and outside of department. 118 Program: Child Development Minor I. General Requirements: A. An overall G.P.A. of 2.00 or C is required. II. Specific Requirements: A. Minimum of 24 credit hours. B. Options: 1. Basic Child Development Minor — Early Childhood. Child and Family Studies courses required (24 credit hours) 150 (5), 256 (4), 119 |
