Show Humanities — English Program: English Major—Bachelor of Arts Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor of Arts General Education requirements (see index). C. A minor is required. D. English majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. English majors must have an overall G. P. A. of 2.00 or C. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). II. Specific Requirements: A. Minimum of 45 credit hours in English courses, with a minimum of 30 credit hours in upper division. B. English courses required: 1. All of the following: English 236 (3) during freshman or sophomore year or 499 (2) during junior or senior year: 367 (3), 368 (5) or 369 (5); 370 (3) or 371 (2); 381 (3) or 383 (3). 2. One of the following: English 321 (3), 325 (3), 328 (3). 3. Two of the following: English 451 (3), 452 (3), 453 (3), 454 (3), 455 (3). 4. Three of the following: English 461 (5), 462 (5), 463 (5), 464 (5). 465 (5), 466 (5). C. English courses to elect from: English 225 (3), 235 (2), 323 (3), 324 (3), 326 (3), 327 (3), 330 (3), 331 (3), 335 (3), 336 (3), 337 (3), 350 (3), 355 (3), 358 (3), 360 (3), 372 (3), 373 (3t, 374 (5), 380 (3), 382 (3), 388 (3), 475 (3), 483 (2-5), 492 (3). D. Support courses recommended: History 315 (3) and 451 (3). Program: English Teaching Major—Bachelor of Arts Degree Option A and Option B I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). Psychology 101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for English Teaching majors. C. English Teaching majors must have a C or better in major courses. D. English Teaching majors must achieve an overall 2.25 6. P. A. E. 183 total hours are required for this degree. F. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). G. Students obtaining an English Teaching major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Education Program). These courses must include the following: Education 195 (1), 300 (3), 350 (3), 363 (3), 364 (4), 462 (3), 495 (5), 499 (5). II. Specific Requirements: A student may select either Option A or Option B to fulfill the English Teaching Major. Option A required an academic minor while Option B provides a concentration of English classes satisfying both the major and the minor in the English field. Option A: A. Minimum of 45 credit hours in English courses, with a minimum of 30 credit hours in upper division. B. A minor is required. C. English courses required: 1. English 236 (3) and 321 (3) or 325 (3) or 328 (3). Humanities — English 2. English 323 (3) or 324 (3) and 329 (3) (Required before student teaching). 3. Enroll in General Honors and complete at least 15 hours of General Honors courses. B. Maintain an overall G. P. A. of 3.3. C. Fulfill requirements for English departmental or teaching major. II. Specific Requirements: A. In fulfilling the requirements for English Departmental Honors, the English major must take at least 15 credit hours on an Honors basis. This must include the senior seminar, English 499. B. The department strongly recommends the following be considered by the Honors candidate: Chaucer, Milton, and/or Shakespeare. 149 |
