Enroll in General Honors Program and complete at least 10 hours of General Honors courses. B. Maintain an overall G. P. A. of 3.3. C. Fulfill the requirements for one of the Theatre Arts majors Theatre Arts Departmental Major, Theatre Arts Teaching Major, Theatre Arts and English Teaching Major, or Speech and Theatre Arts Teaching Major. II. Specific Requirements: A. In fulfilling one of the Theatre Arts majors, take at least twenty hours among these requirements in courses taken for Theatre Arts Honors credit. B. Complete a Theatre Arts Honors Senior Project. C A student may receive Theatre Arts Honors credit in any of the following courses: 301, 302, 314, 343, 351, 411, 412, 415, 483, 486, 493, and 499. D. Permission from the area coordinator should be sought before registering in a course for Honors credit. Humanities •— Theatre Arts WEBER STATE THEATRE PROGRAM Play Production—Weber State Theatre draws its staff members from areas of Theatre Arts and Music. It is under the administrative guidance of the Department of Music and Theatre Arts and the School of Humanities. The Theatre program receives financial support from the Associated Students of Weber State College. Theatre Season—A season of plays is presented each year which includes offerings in both proscenium and flexible production. The season may include legitimate plays, musicals, dance programs, and reader's theatre. A summer theatre program has been part of Weber State summer school offerings. Musical theatre is the major focus of the summer season. Special activities are often included in the total program, such as plays prepared for tour. Survey of Cinema A survey of the techniques, aesthetics, implications of the cinema. AWS HU10:S. Basic Acting For the general student interested ii the hasic skills of perfomnance. A 01 106. Theatre Dance Essentials of dance as it relates to productions. HU111. Theatre Orientation (5) For students with an above-average interest in learning about theatre as a profession. A general introduction to all aspects of theatre including terminology, practices, and procedures. A 112. Physical Technique for the Stage (3) For students with more than an ordinary interest in actor training. Preparation of the actor's body to meet the demands of professional acting. S 116. Introduction to Stagecraft (3) Introduction to preparation and construction of stage scenery and properties. Recommended prerequisite: Theatre Arts 111. W 144. Lyric Theatre (1-2) Study of traditional and contemporary operatic literature through rehearsal and performance of complete operas and musical comedies. Vocal Technique for the Stage (3) An introductory course to train the beginning student in the use of the voice for the theatre. A 212. Scene and Character Analysis (3) Detailed study of dramatic structure from the play to the motivational unit and detailed analysis of a character in relationship to the play and other characters. W 213. Scene and Character Development (3) Application and exploration of principles introduced in Theatre Arts 212 in performance of scenes from dramatic literature. S 216. Introduction to Costume and Make-up (3) Fundamentals of costume and make-up techniques. A 217. Advanced Stagecraft (3) Advanced study in the preparation of scenery and props. W 241. Design and Graphics for the Theatre (3) Introduces the beginning designer to techniques, methods and materials used by theatre designers. S 286. Theatre Practicum (1-2) Practical experience in theatre production. Students registering are required to make advance application to a faculty member before credit will be approved. Theatre Forum (1) Students interested in theatre as an art will meet regularly to hear guest speakers, participate in critiques of current Weber State Theatre productions, and participate in special activities such as student productions, out- of-town theatre parties, etc. AWS 292. Short Courses, Workshops, Institutes and Special Programs (1-6) In order to provide flexibility and to meet many different needs, a number of specific offerings are possible using this catalog number. When the number is used it will be accompanied by a brief and specific descriptive title. The specific title with the credit authorized for the particular offering will appear on the student transcript. 293. Stage Combat (2) For students with more than an ordinary interest in actor training. This course prepares students mentally and physically to engage in and to direct combat scenes for the stage. S 312. Acting Styles and Systems (3) Exploration of history and techniques of various "schools" or "methods" of acting. (Offered alternate years beginning Winter 1982). W 313. Advanced Acting (3) Concentrates on use of varied dramatic form, style, and period. (Offered alternate years beginning Spring 1981- 82). S 314.
