Show Any student whose graded performance is lower than he thinks it should be may, at his request, receive evaluation of and help concerning ability, study skills, choice of major, and personal problems. All students whose cumulative grade average is below a "C" or 2.0 level and all students whose quarterly grade average is below a "D" or 1.0 level will be placed on probation as indicated below. All such students will not be eligible to participate in certain college-sponsored activities. (See Eligibility Standards.) Categories of probation are defined by grade point deficits below the total required for a "C" average. The deficit is reported at the bottom of the student's report of grades. Any questions should be directed to the Director of Scholastic Standards, room 123, in the Annex. I ACADEMIC WARNING (1 to 15 grade points below a "C" average). Whenever a student compiles a grade point total which is within 15 points of the total necessary for a 2.0 average, he will be placed on warning. His advisor approval card will indicate the status to both the student and his advisor, both of whom should take steps to remedy the cause of low grades and prevent an increased grade point deficit. They should give serious consideration to limiting the total course load and should select classes in which the student has the highest probability of success. Students, regardless of their cumulative grade point average, who perform below a grade point average of 1.0 for any quarter will be placed on Warning. These students and other students on Warning whose record warrants special consideration will receive formal notification of their status and will be scheduled to visit with the Director of Scholastic Standards. II ACADEMIC PROBATION (16 or more grade points below a "C" average). Performance resulting in a grade point deficit of 16 or more points places a student on Final Probation. His registration will be regulated by the Director of Scholastic Standards who will serve as his advisor. A letter will be sent to the student notifying him of an appointment to visit with the Director. III SUSPENSION Students on Academic Probation who fail to earn a grade point average of 2.0 or better for that quarter will be suspended from further attendance at Weber State College. Readmission will be considered only in cases where the student can present evidence to the Admissions Committee which would indicate positive change in circumstances suggesting a high probability of future successful performance. 44 Eligibility—To protect students from becoming involved in extracurricular activities when their scholastic record is not high enough to warrant the additional expenditure of time and to provide for fair representation of all who represent the institution, the college specifies minimum standards of eligibility. I. ELIGIBILITY STANDARDS To be eligible for participation in certain college-sponsored activities students must: 1. Be matriculated and carry 12 or more quarter hours in both the current and previous quarter. 2. Maintain a cumulative grade point of 2.0 or better. 3. Earn a grade point average of 2.0 or better for the previous quarter. 4. Any student placed on academic or disciplinary warning or probation will also be ineligible. 5. Present evidence of certification to the club or group with whom he participates (certification of eligibility covering all the above criteria except the current quarter registration is printed on each individual's report card). Any student who participates in any of the activities concerned without meeting all the above criteria including registration for 12 or more quarter hours in the quarter during which he participates places himself and others involved in jeopardy. Should his eligibility be challenged and found wanting, his group may be required to forfeit any win it may have gained during such participation. II. STUDENT ACTIVITIES CONCERNED The above policies shall govern participation in the following activities: 1. Weber State College scholarships. 2. Student government and other student leadership and service activities. 3. Social and service clubs. 4. Music and dramatic events. 5. Intra-murals. 6. Publication staffs. 7. Chatonelles. 8. King, Queen, and similar contests. Before students may represent Weber State College in intercollegiate athletics they must comply with the eligibility regulations adopted by the Board of Trustees of the college and constitution and operating code of the Big Sky Athletic Conference. 45 |
