Show DIVISION OF SOCIAL SCIENCES Dello G. Dayton, Chairman The social sciences are concerned with the whole range of human history and human activities, from the origin of man to current problems in the field of international relations. It is the aim, of the Division of Social Sciences to throw light on living in society. The Division provides general education for all students and special and professional education for those choosing majors in the area of the social sciences. It also provides a rich selection of courses for the pre-law student. Majors and Minors The Division includes the following departments: Aerospace Studies, Anthropology and Philosophy, History and Political Science, Military Science, Orientation, Psychology, and Sociology. It offers majors in History, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. Minors are offered in these same fields and, in addition, in Anthropology and Philosophy. A Composite Teaching Major in the Social Sciences is also offered. This major will consist of at least 66 quarter hours of work in three related fields. Inasmuch as history is the major social science course taught in the secondary schools, students choosing a composite major must select history as the strong field with not less than 26 quarter hours therein. Each of the other two fields must include not less than 20 quarter hours. Social Science courses which are taken to satisfy the Area Requirements cannot be used also for fulfilling the major and minor requirements. "D" grades will not be acceptable in the Social Science courses which are used to satisfy the major and minor requirements. Transfer Students Students majoring or minoring in the Social Sciences who transfer from another institution and who intend to graduate from Weber State College will be required to take, in the case of the minor, at least one class, and in the case of the major, at least two classes at Weber State College.
