Show additional hours selected from the following: Office Administration 25, 30, 146, 148, Accounting 1, 2, and Economics 1 or 10. Composite Teaching Major in Business Education—A student selecting this must have a major emphasis of at least 24 hours from the courses required in the major and emphasis in two complementary minors of at least 18 hours each, from the courses required in the minors. The following fields are acceptable for the major and the two minors in Business Education: Accounting, Economics, and Office Administration. Courses of Instruction 1. Personal Elementary Typewriting—Development of sustained typing power, control of figures and symbols, improvement of techniques. A speed of at least 30 words per minute should be attained. May be waived by proficiency examination. Credit will not be given to students who have had one year of typing previously. AWS (3). Heaps, Henrie, Jenson 2. Elementary Typewriting (Continued)—Review of keyboard, business letters, tabulated reports, improvement of basic skills, and intensive speed building. For those typing 25 w.p.m. or faster. Prerequisite: Office Administration 1 or equivalent. A W S (3). Heaps, Henrie, Jenson 3. Intermediate Typewriting—Manuscripts, special problems in letter arrangement and business forms. Hi-Speed Longhand (ABC Shorthand)—A method of fast writing based on the English alphabet; abbreviations, omission, and blending of letters; dictation and transcription. Prerequisite: Office Administration 2 or equivalent. This class continues into Office Administration 12. AWS (3). Henrie 11. Elementary Shorthand—Introduction to theory of Gregg Shorthand system with emphasis upon reading and writing fluency. Not open for credit to students who have had one year of previous shorthand training. Prerequisite: Office Administration 1, or equivalent, or take concurrently. AW (4). Heaps, Henrie, Jenson 12. Elementary Shorthand (Continued)—Use of the entire shorthand theory in practice dictation. An entrance speed of at least 50 words per minute is required. Intermediate Shorthand Dictation—Stenographic short-cuts, abbreviations, phrases and transcription. An entrance speed of at least 70 words per minute is required. Business Machines—Practical experience using Rotary Calculators and Ten-Key listing machines in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, etc. AWS (2). Advanced Typewriting—Special communication forms, statistical reports, legal documents and business letters. A speed of at least 60 words a minute should be attained. A speed of at least 70 words a minute should be attained. Prerequisite: Office Administration 2 or equivalent. W S (3). Jenson 110. Applied Shorthand Transcription—Practical application of shorthand transcription. Review of punctuation, grammar, capitalization, etc., relating to mailable transcripts. Prerequisites: Shorthand speed of 80-100 or above, typewriting speed of 40 or above. S (3). Heaps, Jenson 111. Intermediate Shorthand, Dictation, and Transcription—Speed dictation with stress on fluency and accuracy of writing. An entrance speed of at least 90 words per minute is required. Prerequisites: Office Administration 3 and 13 or equivalent, or Office Administration 110. AWS (4). Heaps, Henrie 112. Advanced Shorthand—Intense dictation.
