Show Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Wildlife Management Assistant Professors Hayle Buchanan, L. Thad Home*; Instructor Don L. Chadwick. This department offers preprofessional training in Agriculture, Forestry, and Wildlife Management. Students must continue their education at another institution in order to obtain baccalaureate degrees in these fields. The catalog of the school to which the student plans to transfer should be consulted as a guide in registering for courses at Weber State College. Faculty advisors are available in the department to assist students plan their program of studies. Two years of a preprofessional general agriculture program are offered at Weber State College. Agriculture 1, 3, 5, 8, 16, 20, and 25 should be completed. College area, basic, and other graduation requirements should be met among which Chemistry 11, 12, 13, or 24, 25, 26. Mathematics 14, 18, Botany 1, 11, 2, 21, Zoology 1, 11, English 5, Physics 5 or 51 to 56, History 5 and Psychology 1 are recommended. AGRICULTURE Courses of Instruction 1. General Soils—Soil formation, classification, fertility, and management. Prerequisites: two quarters of inorganic chemistry. Four lectures and one laboratory period a week. S (5). Staff 3. Fruit Production—Principles of orchard practices, pest control, fruit harvesting and storage. Three lectures each week. S (3) Chadwick 5. Field Crops—Principles of crop production; identification, marketing and cultural methods. Four lectures and one laboratory period each week. A (5) Chadwick 8. Irrigation Practices—Relation of soils and crops to irrigation: measurement of water, methods of irrigation, ditch design and farm drainage. Three lectures and one laboratory each week. A (4). Chadwick 16. Vegetable Production—Culture practices, pest control, harvesting, and processing vegetables. Three lectures and one laboratory weekly. S (4) Chadwick 20. General Animal Science—Livestock production as related to other phases of agriculture. Four lectures and one laboratory weekly. A (5) Chadwick *On leave 142 25. Feeds and Feeding—Animal nutrition with emphasis on practical livestock feeding, composition of feeds, and ration balancing. Four lectures and one laboratory each week. W (5) Chadwick 31. Agricultural Economics—Principles with emphasis on economic aspects of agriculture and the farmer as a business manager. A (3) Staff 32. Agricultural Economics (Cont'd)—Organization and functioning of the agricultural marketing system including principles of price determination. W (3) Staff 33. Agricultural Economics (Cont'd)—Agricultural policies, utilization, valuation, and tenure of land with related problems of water'usage. S (3). Staff Vocational Agriculture Vocational agriculture courses are listed under the Division of Technical Education. Forestry and Wildlife Management Two year preprofessional programs in forestry, range management, and wildlife management are offered at Weber State College. Basic requirements include: English 1, 2, and 3; three quarters of Physical Education; Botany 1, 2, 11, 21, and 162; Forestry 1, 2, and 3; Mathematics 14, 18, and 21; Engineering 4, and 6; Agriculture 1; Chemistry 11, 12 and 13; Economics 1; Geology 21; Speech 15; and Physics 5. In addition to the English and Speech classes listed other classes in the humanities and social sciences should be included. FORESTRY AND WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT Courses of Instruction 1. Forest Management—Professions related to forest, range and wildlife management. Relation of management to multiple uses of land. Open to all students. A (2). Buchanan 2.
