Show REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR OF ARTS AND BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREES Minimum Requirements—A candidate for graduation with a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science Degree must have completed a minimum of 183 credits. Upper Division Requirement—A minimum of 60 credits of upper division work. Major Requirements—A major in any one department will consist of not fewer than 40 and not more than 60 credits in the major field. Minor Requirements—A minor consists of not fewer than 20 credits. Courses designed primarily for the major students which are also used to satisfy the area requirements as outlined under area requirements can be used as part of the minimum number of hours needed for the minor requirements. See Division or Department for specific minor requirements. Residence Requirement—A candidate for graduation must have a minimum of 45 credits in residence at Weber State College and be registered at the college during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to his graduation. Division Requirements—Further information concerning specific courses will be provided under the discussion of division requirements and instructions. Candidates for graduation in the Division of Education must meet the minimum requirements as outlined by the Utah State Board of Education for certification of elementary and secondary teachers. Bachelor of Arts Requirement—A candidate for a Bachelor of Arts degree must complete 24 credits, or the equivalent, in one approved foreign language. A maximum of fifteen college credits from high school may count toward filling the foreign language requirement, provided the student can pass an examination to demonstrate his knowledge of the subject. Transfer credit from another institution will be recognized without taking an examination. Second Baccalaureate Degree—A student may qualify for a second baccalaureate degree by completing one full year of work in addition to that required for his first degree. He must complete all the requirements of the division from which he will receive his new degree. Specific Course Requirements All candidates must include in the 183 credits the following courses: 48 Credits'" English 1, 2, 3 (Freshman Composition) 9 Orientation 1 or equivalent 2 Health Education 1 2 Physical Education (Medical exemption approved by the college physician required to waive this requirement) 3 (For specified activities see Physical Education Division) '■"The term "Credits" means quarter hour credits in this catalog. Area Requirements A student may satisfy the general education requirements by completing a minimum of 40 credit hours in the four areas of Humanities, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences. At least 9 credit hours, but not more than 12 credit hours in one area will be counted toward this requirement. In addition, women students are required to complete one approved course in the department of Family Living. Humanities: The general education requirements in Humanities may be satisfied by completing 9 to 12 credit hours selected from the following courses. The courses must be chosen from at least two departments, one of which must be Literature. Art — *'Art 5.
