Show DIVISION OF LIFE SCIENCES Sheldon P. Hayes, Chairman The Life Sciences Division focuses attention to the essential oneness of living things as revealed through the biological inter-relationships among organisms—human, plant, and animal. It seeks to develop attitudes of effective citizenship by encouraging students to accept responsibility for safeguarding our natural resources and to acquire logical and consistent concepts of family living. General education, cultural, preprofessional, vocational, and professional curricula are offered by various departments within the division. The Life Sciences Division includes the following departments: Agriculture, Forestry, and Wildlife Management; Bacteriology and Public Health; Biology and Genetics; Botany; Family Life; Nursing; Paramedical Sciences; and Physiology and Zoology. Baccalaureate degree majors are offered in Bacteriology (including Medical Technology option), Biology Composite Teaching, Botany Departmental, Botany Teaching, Family Life, Child Development, Family Life—Office Administration, Zoology Departmental and Zoology Teaching. Minors are offered in Bacteriology, Biology, Botany, Botany Teaching, Family Relations, Family Life, Child Development, Zoology and Zoology Teaching. Found in the division are curricula for biologically oriented careers serving as pre-entrance training to specialized schools (not available at Weber State College) such as agriculture, wildlife management, dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, public health, veterinary science, podiatry, osteopathy etc. Faculty advisors are available in the division for assisting students interested in the preceding. Associate degrees are offered in Nursing and X-ray Technology. A Certificate of Proficiency will be awarded individuals successfully completing the nine-month Dental Assisting Program. In collaboration with the National Audubon Society the Division supports wildlife films dealing with all phases of conservation and nature appreciation. Attendance at these programs is required of those students registered in courses for which the films are appropriate. 141 |
