Emphasis in Health Education, Recreation Education, Physical Therapy, Dance or Coaching is permitted with the consent of the Division. The courses of emphasis are recommended primarily in the area of materials and techniques of the specialized fields. Physical Education Teaching Major—Same requirements as above plus education requirements for the secondary or elementary teaching certificates. Minors will -be offered in Physical Education, Health Education and Recreation Education by fulfilling 25 hours of approved courses as follows: Physical Education Minor—Twenty-five hours of approved courses including P.E. 83, 161, 162 and 8 hours of Techniques and Materials. Physical Education Minor with Dance Emphasis—Twenty- five hours of approved courses including P.E. 52, 58, 59, 83, 85, 86, 87, 105, 109, 110, 111, 121, 161. Health Education Minor—Twenty-five hours of approved courses including H.E. 3, 105, 110, 112, Psychology 140, and Bacteriology 5. Recreation Education Minor—Twenty-five hours of approved courses including: 6 hours of recreation activities, R.E. 80, 88, 160, 155, Physical Education 57, 58, 59, 83, 105, 107, 108, 157. Extracurricular Activities Intercollegiate Athletics—A full program of intercollegiate athletics will be offered as a member of the Big Sky Athletic Conference. Members are: Weber State College, Gonzaga University, Idaho University, Idaho State University, University of Montana and Montana State University. This program is under the direction of Professor Reed K. Swenson, Athletic Director; Sarkis Arslanian, Head Football Coach; Tom Ram- age, Francis "Bud" Belnap, Douglas Hunt and Lynn Corbridge, Assistant Football Coaches; J. Richard Motta, Head Basketball Coach; Phil Johnson, Assistant Basketball Coach; Marvin J. Peterson, Head Track and Cross Country Coach; Richard G. Williams, Head Baseball Coach; Leo T. Low, Head Wrestling Coach; Lynn Corbridge, Head Swimming Coach; Earl Miller, Head Ski Coach; Mac Madsen, Head Golf Coach and Assistant Ski Coach; Don Spainhower, Athletic Publicity Director; Gary Crompton, Athletic Business Manager; Ronald Flygare, Equipment Manager. Health Service Program—The program is under the direction of R.N. Hirst, M.D. and Margaret Nicholson, R.N. and 214 provides protective and educative benefits for every student. It includes appraisal, consultations, follow-up procedures, and emergency care for sudden illness and accidents. Intramural Sports—Intramural sports programs are conducted for men and women. The Men's Intramural Association under the direction of M. J. Peterson is organized to conduct the program for all men students. The Women's Intramural Association is organized to conduct the program for all women students. Competition in individual and group sports is provided. Orchesis—This program under the direction of Margaret Waterfall is conducted to give women and men students the opportunity for creative dance study, composition, and performance; also, to stimulate interest in dance and to foster standards of performance, appreciation and understanding of dance as an art form.
