Show hours: 2, 3, 22, 24, 25, 26, 34, 61, 65, 121, 151, 160, 165. This makes a total of 48 hours, 30 of which are lower division and 18 of which are upper division. Art 181, a teaching methods class, is also required. Students wishing a teaching minor in art are required to take Art 1, 11 or 13, 20, 30, 60, 160 or 165, 121 or 122, 185 or 186 or 187. This is a 24 credit hour requirement, 15 of which are lower division and 9 of which are upper division. Students wishing commercial art majors are required to take a core course including the following: 1, 18, 20, 21, 22, 24, 30, 34, 51, 60, 65, 185, 186, 187 for a total of 42 hours. The field of emphasis will determine the additional required classes. In addition to the core program students emphasizing illustration must take Art 25, 26, 62, 66, 67, 121, 122, 123, 141, 142, 143, 151, 160, 165. This totals 84 credit hours for the major. In addition to the core program students emphasizing advertising design must take Art 13, 14, 11 or 15, 16, 31, 32, 46, 112, 113, 114, 117, 190, 191 for a total of 84 credit hours. Students who are taking a departmental art major are required to take a core program consisting of Art 1, 20, 21, 22, 30, 32, 34, 51, 60, 61, 65, 185, 186, 187. The field of emphasis of an additional 18 hours of upper division work may be selected from painting, printmaking, ceramics, or drawing for a total of 60 hours. Courses of Instruction 1. Introduction to Ceramics—Beginning Course in ceramics. Emphasis on techniques of wheel throwing with an introduction to hand building forms with fireclay. Appreciation of ceramic design. Introduction to clay decoration and glazing techniques. Kiln stacking and firing. A W S (3). Staff 4. Handbuilding Techniques (Formerly Ceramics Sculpture Design)—Beginning course in the making of ceramic forms using hand building techniques such as coil, slab, pinching, etc. Large projects will be encouraged. Introduction to Art—Underlying principles of arrangement and other factors determining the quality of a work of art. AWS (3). Staff 11. Pen Lettering—Letter structure and alphabet drill with speedball type pens. AWS (3). Staff 104 13. Showcard Lettering—Elements of free-hand showcard lettering. AWS (3). Staff 14.
